Type 0

→Değişmeyen genel durumlar ve bilimsel gerçekler için kullanılır.

e.g.: If you mix red and blue, it becomes purple.

→Alışkanlıklar ve tipik davranışlar için kullanılır

e.g.: If I eat ice cream, I drink water afterwards.

→Emirler ve talimatlar için kullanılır.

e.g.: Slow down if you see a speed limit sign.

(!) “If type 0” olan cümlelerde “if”, “when” ile değiştirilebilir.

e.g.: When you mix red and blue, it becomes purple.

(!)AMA her “if type 0” cümlesi bir “when” cümlesi olsa da her “when” cümlesi bir “if type 0”
cümlesi değildir.
e.g.: When she sleeps, she sometimes snores.
If she sleeps, she sometimes snores.

Type 1

→Gelecek zamanda gerçekleşebilecek durumları ifade eder.

e.g.: If he eats this much, he will gain weight.

→Olasılıklar için kullanılır.

e.g.: I may have a hard time if my broken ankle doesn’t heal.

Type 2

→Gerçekleşmeyen şimdiki zamanı anlatır.

Bundan kastımız daha önce yaptığımız faaliyetler sebebiyle değişebilecek durumlar.
e.g.: I’ve taken the YKS exam and I’m here. (the real present)

If I didn’t take the YKS exam, I wouldn’t be here. (an alternative present)

Type 3

→Gerçekleşmeyen geçmiş zamanı anlatır.

Bu da “Type 2”nun bir tense geri hali gibidir.
e.g.: Last week, my flight was cancelled due to a technical problem. (the real past)

My flight wouldn’t have been cancelled last week if there hadn’t been a technical
problem. (an alternative past)
Mixed Type (söylemeyi unutmuş olabilirim, ehe)

→Bazı zamanlar geçmişte yapılan bir şey şimdiyi değiştirebilir. Bu durumlarda genelde “Type 2”
ve “Type 3” birlikte kullanılır.
e.g.: My family isn’t rich. That’s why, I can’t buy a car.

If my family had been rich, I could buy a car.

Inversions

Type 1- “If” yerine “Should” getirilir. Eğer fiilde (-s) takısı varsa kaldırılır.
e.g.: If he comes, it will be great.

Should he come, it will be great.

Type 2- Bunun iki yolu vardır:

1. Fiilin “be” olduğu cümlelerde “were” başa getirilir.

e.g.: If I were a cat, I could climb trees.

Were I a cat, I could climb trees.

2. Fiil “be” değilse; fiil parçalanır, “did” yerine “were” getirilir ve fiil “infinitive yapılır.
e.g.: If she really lied to you, we would know.

If she really did lie to you, we would know.

Were she really to lie o you, we would know.

Type 3- “Had” yardımcı fiili “If” yerine getirilir.

e.g.: If the dog had been that hungry, it would’ve accepted the food I gave.

Had the dog been that hungry, it would’ve accepted the food I gave.

(!) Eğer inversion bir negatifse (negation) not özneden sonra gelir.
e.g.: Should he not come, it wouldn’t be great. :(
Were I not a girlie, I would always wear baggy clothes.
Were we not to see her falling in the hole, we couldn’t save her.
Had she not been a good student, she wouldn’t have gotten such good grades.
