her, urging Amara to be ready for the impending storm that will

DIRECTOR’S
STATEMENT
Based on the lives of many students across Latin America during
the XX century and even the past few decades, "Home" explores
friendship, sacrifice, commitment, and the indelible marks left by
political upheaval, weaving together personal and historical
narratives. I bear witness to those marks, as I've had co-workers
who have had to flee my country and classmates who have been
threatened, all because of activism and commitment to social
justice in Colombia. These sacrifices can only fall under the name
of vocación, a word in Spanish that means a summons or strong
inclination to a particular state or course of action, especially a
divine call or a dedication to serve others. I have always admired
that vocación, even though I'm not that brave.

This is then, a story about what we lose in the name of the cause
we believe in and the things we are passionate about. This is the
story of the people who have lost their homes while trying to build
one for others.
