TITLE:
RABIES ERADICATION: ANTI-RABIES VACCINATION PROGRAM
OBJECTIVES:
1. To reduce the number of incidences of public health problems
associated with dog bites;
2. To improve prevention and control rabies virus; and
3. To vaccinate at least 70% of dogs in the Municipality by the end
of the year.
RATIONALE:
Rabies is a ranging and unchecked problem in the country. Rabies is
a fatal disease caused by Lyssavirus, transmitted through bite or
scratch of an infected animal. Dogs are the principal of rabies virus.
According to Department of Health “Rabies Control Program”, 98% of human
rabies cases were due to dog bites.
In the Municipality of Siruma, there are several reported cases of
dog bites. To prevent and control rabies cases, in accordance with the
REPUBLIC ACT 9842 of 2007 known as ANTI-RABIES ACT, an act providing for
the control and elimination of human and animal rabies, prescribing
penalties for violation thereof and appropriating funds. The Office of
Sangguniang Bayan Created a Municipal Ordinance titled “The Rabies
Control Ordinance of Siruma”. Highlighted in the Article III Section 7-9
the compulsory vaccination against rabies that the owner shall submit
their dogs for anti-rabies vaccination and upon vaccination, a
certificate of vaccination shall be correspondingly issued to the owner,
the municipality shall keep and maintain a book of record of all dogs
vaccinated within the municipality.
