Abstract
Children in the 21st century are avid users of technology - more so than generations

past. This rise in use has led to much attention on the consequences of technology use,

and how this impacts children’s brains and their socio-emotional, cognitive and physical

development. Much of the research in these fields, especially brain-based research, is

in its infancy. Furthermore, it often shows very small correlations between technology

use and child outcomes; whether technology causes these outcomes is unclear, and

small effect sizes bring questions about real-life implications for children. Despite these

issues, policymakers in various countries have set guidelines for technology use in

children, which are often restriction-focused. This paper explores some of the literature

on the effects of technology use on children in terms of their brain, cognitive, socio-

emotional and physical development, and summarises what is clearly demonstrated in

the literature. It also highlights where more quality research is needed to better

understand the impact of technology on children, and support the development of

effective, evidence-based guidelines.

In this chapter we discuss about the Background of the study, Historical Perspective, Problem

Statement and Research gap.

1.1 Background of the study:

This study is to examine the impact of technology on child behavior, recent year in

Pakistan the children has greatly influence in media technology like mobile phone and

social media. With the introduction of new technology has impact on children

development, it is benefit for children weather use good way but it also harmful while it

is opponents voiced fear about to in appropriate commercial, sexual, and violent

content. Introduction of new media as a source of engaging useless activities and get

isolated and seclude from their own families. Children’s spend much time on screen

rather than less time spend with their peers face to face then did earlier generation do.

Through technology children’s are morality engaging them to criminal behavior or teach

un ethical manners. According to many researcher’s that today’s technology put

children to back because there is many health issues through technology. Now our main

focus to examine that why technology become more common how we get rid of this.

1.2 Historical perspective:

In (2017) according to dawn news that smart phones, gaming destroying the children

activity almost. In few years ago children’s go with their parents spend time with them

and the printing in Germany has not impact immediately on society as the Internet had.

The suicide rate is more is increase more sharp after (2010). When the technology

introduced the device like Ipad, iphone, their unwanted features increased children’s

most of the time unhappy and depressed, Teen spend most time online are more likely

to sleep deprived unhappy and depressed. (Twinge, Professor of Psychology at san

Diego state university author of given 8 July 2018) says that WHO announced “gaming

disorder” should be included in its disease classification, manual, reigniting debates

over weather an activity engaged in by so many could be classified as a disorder

diseases of mental health condition. Expert were point out that only 1 to 3 per cent of

children’s are fit on their diagnosis criteria they have control on the habit of

technological games or maintain their health or also relationship to others. In America

60% of homes with children’s age 8 to 17 who were connected with internet much of the

time. In Pakistan 100 million mob users. According to dawn news (Qadeer 2016)

reports14 million are internet users. The survey conducted by (Gallup 2016) Pakistan,

92% majority is regular consumer of social media. (Jack loechner, staff writer @mp

research 6 june 2016) 10 year old children tablets are their favorite 45% of those

children whom their parents allow device in their bedrooms and it is very potential

harmful for them.

1.3 Purpose of study:

The purpose of the study is to identify impact of technology on children’s. its my

individually

point of view that I saw everywhere the children’s who are busy with their phones every

time they

are playing games, chatting with their friends, using internet, even 5 year old child who

can use

mob phone. Today’s technology is spreading more and more in everywhere. Parents

are

equally responsible for it because they use mob phone in front of children in free time

they notgive proper time to their children. We want to investigate, is technology

really effect on theteenagers, according to me technology user children are never

feel fresh and healthier after using

long time technological device. Our body can’t work in good, we feel tired rest of the

time. Today’s

era technology is part of every home, even through it reached at villages, now the

villages people

children are also the victim of this technology. Technology made children lazy from their

routine

work. Technology made children behavior so harsh. Children are disorder from mind

have lost

their capacity of tolerance. After spending many hours on using their phone they can’t

sleep well

because the children are offered by the rays of technology. So some time technology is

beneficial

overall it is harmful for children. Now a day’s we provide own self technological devices

to our

children. We don’t know how much technology is harmful for children. Soour purpose is

clearly

define.

Problem statement:

This research is clearly focus on impact of technology on children. In every home every

society every parents point of view technology is leading a big issues of today. Due to

technology children’s are suffering from mental disorder they silently connected with

their phones and slowly their life is effected from the technology So, I focus on those

factor how to overcome from this technology.

Research objectives:

To investigate technology effected children.

To examine the consequence of technology impact on children.

To identify factors that effect negative impact of technology on children.

To analyze the technology is helpful for children

To evaluate the impact of technology on children.

LITRATURE REVIEW
(Ellen A. Wartella, Ph.D., is dean and Walter Cronkite Regents Chair of the College of

Communication at the University of Texas, Austin). According to her research On going

debates on the introduction of earlier media highlighted the novel attributes of each

technology, but they have similar promises and concern, proponents argues that new

technology will enrich children by introducing world to them, while opponents argue that

new media technology is decaying children’s personality by learning ethical principles,

undermining children’s morality and causing them to engage in illicit sexual and criminal

behavior. Recent research in children’s use of computers is following the same pattern.

Interactivity is now possible with computers communication features has heightened

both promises of learning and increase risk of harm. In result research on the

components that effect children’s has new sense of urgency writers conclude that to aid

inform and stop information of qualitative material for children’s. Another research is

required on the effect of media on children’s and new partnership between industry,

academia and advocacy groups. According to (Zadrian Ardi1, Kharina Viola*)2, Indah

Sukmawati3 123Universitas NegeriPadang 03/07/2018) the internet is widely used

global communications network which connect over thousands of computer networks,

over any individual or private telephone line, it is being managed by from governments

universities, commercial organization and volunteer large number users of internet is

(teenager), on which the internet has both private and negative impacts. Positive impact

is that we can access to the bundle of knowledge easily while its negative effects is that

it effects the moral growth of children. They misuse more than using it in appropriate

way, they watch wrong things on internet, which result in the influence on adolescent

morals, with regard to position of counselor, then the use of internet of teenagers,

internet counseling will be more efficient and effective.

Emerging mobile and digital technologies such as smartphones, tablets, wearables, and

other mobile devices are now embedded in the daily lives of young children and their

families, with research evidence on their use and effects lagging behind their rate of

adoption (Radesky, Schumacher, & Zuckerman, 2015b). These multimodal devices,

with their access to unlimited Internet content, social contacts, work duties, information,

and personal data, have revolutionized the ways in which people interact with digital

technology and with each other (Katz, 2002, Campbell, Ling, & Bayer, 2014). studies on

internet addiction originated in the US more recently, have documented internet

addiction in a growing number of countries such as Itlay (Frerraro, caci, Di Blasi, 2007)

Pakistan (Suhail and Bargees 2006) and Czech Republic (Simkova and Cincera, 2004)

Report also indicates the internet addiction, specially online games has become serious

public health concern in China (BBC 2007). About 10 percent of China's more than 30

million internet users were said to be an addictive. According to American Medical

Association up to 90 percent of American children's play video games and as many as

15 percent of them more than 5 million children may addicted. Video games may look

innocent but they can be as addictive as gambling or drugs and just as hard to kick.

child television time, but we know little about what predicts children's media using other

technology. Children's time spent with four digital media devices - television, computers,

smartphones, and tablet computers - was examined. Results from linear regression

analyses indicate that across the four platforms that parents' own screen time were

strictly associated with child screen time. Further analyses indicate that child screen

time use appears to be the result of an interaction between child and parent factors and

is highly influenced by parental attitudes. Results suggest that policymakers should

consider the family environment as a whole when developing policy to influence

social media is a routine activity that research has shown to benefit children and

adolescents by enhancing communication, social connection, and even technical skills.1

Social media sites such as Facebook and MySpace offer multiple daily opportunities for

connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests. During the last 5

years, the number of preadolescents and adolescents using such sites has increased

dramatically. According to a recent poll, 22% of teenagers log on to their favorite social

media site more than 10 times a day, and more than half of adolescents log on to a

social media site more than once a day.2 Seventy-five percent of teenagers now own

cell phones, and 25% use them for social media, 54% use them for texting, and 24%

use them for instant messaging.3 Thus, a large part of this generation’s social and

emotional development is occurring while on the Internet and on cell phones. Because

of their limited capacity for self-regulation and susceptibility to peer pressure, children

and adolescents are at some risk as they navigate and experiment with social media.

According to (Rachel Ehmke 2018 children’s heath report)With new technology and

especially smart phones, we are not really alone. Kids update their status, share what

they're watching, listening to, and reading, and have apps that let their friends know

their specific location on a map at all times. Even if a person is not trying to keep his

friends updated, he's still out of reach of a text message. The result is that kids feel

hyperconnected with each other. The conversation never needs to stop, and it feels like

there's always something new happening.

"Whatever we think of the relationships" maintained and in some cases initiated on

social media, kids never get a break from them, "notes Dr. Wick. "And that, in and of

itself, can produce anxiety. Everyone needs a respite from the demands of intimacy and

connection; time alone to regroup, replenish and just chill out. When you do not have

that, it's easy to become emotionally depleted, fertile ground for anxiety to breed. "

It's also surprisingly easy to feel lonely in the middle of all that hyperconnection. For one

thing, kids know now with depressing certainty when they're being ignored. We all have

phones and we all respond to things pretty quickly, so when you're waiting for a

response that does not come, the silence can be deafening. The silent treatment could

be a strategic insult or just an unfortunate side effect of an online adolescent

is affected by the more they useFacebook. Social platforms are mainly used by students

for socializing activities rather thanacademic purpose (Oye, 2012). In addition (Oye,

2012) said that the majority of students feel thatSocial platforms have a positive impact

on academic growth. In a different study conducted byShana (2012) it was assured that

students use platforms mainly for chatting and makingfriends. '' The consequences of

internet and social platforms on students' academic growth '' astudy than by Young

(2006), it was seen that the Internet has spread its wings to reach the teenager'sschool

life. It was also observed by Young that students are more dependent on the internet

toaccess info that pertains to their academic life as well as entertainment. (PETER

mediation for games and television enhances children’s safety, mental awareness

sharpens and learning gain, and co-use for entertainment or educational purpose. In

today’s active use of mobiles parents remain touch with children for supervising the

usage they monitor online the work, check the browser history which social applications

were used, sometimes parents use blocking system so that they may keep the children

from bad content. This study showed that how that how much parent’s guide their

children which strategies parents should apply depends on their age, environment,

gender, education and income level more importantly family size, marital status and

number of media screens at home matters. Such factors show the involvements of

parents in children’s activities and media use. In higher families parents provide these

devices to children’s for boosting up their level of children many parents believes that

giving devices to children raise their mental level enhance their capability and activate

their potential. A research show in Dutch parents provide such equipment’s to children’s

so that they may feel rest and rest in bed, their total usage rely on children’s media, skill

and age. In former studies, parents may co- use means careful supervision active

mediation restrictive mediation, depending weather the usage is positive and negative,

as high usage of device defines their skills and knowledge of society where they are

living, In early stages of life children’s have little knowledge about the usage of device

so children’s fall prey to negative usage of device. In results parents impose more

restriction and usage is actively supervised. So, guidance’s plays an active role parents,

adults must help children’s to learn and use of device.

Research methodology:

The research methodology is deductive approach and a quantitative method followed by

a online survey. The website which we use for our survey Google Doc.com, through

which we send the questionnaires to our friends. This survey t is based upon on 80

questionnaires were randomly distributed among the parents or friends age group is 20

to 35.The total questionnaire were 80 and response rate is 56%. The data were

analyzing on 52response.

About google doc:

Google Docs is a free Web-based application in

which documents and spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. Files can

be accessed from any computer with an Internetconnection and a full-featured

Web browser. Google Docs is a part of a comprehensive package of online applications

offered by and associated with Google.Google Docs lends itself to collaborative projects

in which multiple authors work together in real time from geographically diverse

locations. All participants can see who made specific document changes and when

those alterations were done. Because documents are stored online and can also be

stored on users' computers, there is no risk of total data loss as a result of a localized

catastrophe.

opinion to us that “technology is better for children because children learn more

information from it.” it is best but it depends upon the user that in which way he/she is

using it.” “Our young generation are mostly use technology for being social and use it

negatively so it is worst.” Technology is worse for child because they can’t growing their

own mind power them dependent technological things and also not live without

Conclusion and recommendation:


Parents and teens need to be aware about engaging with the online world. Parents can
ask their teen to show them how they use social media and what it is. Try to navigate
the social world together, rather than acting as a supervisor. Ask your teenager to help
you understand how they use the internet so that you can make good decisions about
social media usage together.Together with your teen visit their social media channels.
Take a look at what your teen is posting online. Check out their favorites and which
YouTube channels they are subscribed to. Favorites and subscriptions can give you
clues about what they're watching on the siteAsk your teen to create playlists of their
favorite videos, while you create your own. Then, sit and watch them together. You can
see what they're watching, and it gives them an opportunity to share what they enjoy
online with you Make using the internet together a game. For example, you can guess
what kinds of videos are popular in a particular place and use the "advanced search"
function to see videos only in that location.
