The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a topic of ●

significant debate in India. It aims to replace the
diverse personal laws that currently govern
different religious communities with a single,
uniform set of laws applicable to all citizens. Let’s
explore how the UCC could impact women’s rights:
1. Equality in Marriage and Divorce:
●
In a civil society, women should have equal
rights in marriage and divorce.
●
The UCC advocates see it as a means to
guarantee these rights, given the discriminatory
and patriarchal nature of India’s existing
religious personal laws toward women.
2. Maintenance and Custody:
●
The UCC could provide clarity and consistency
in matters related to maintenance and child
custody.
●
Uniformity in these areas would benefit women
by ensuring fair treatment across communities.
some argue that the UCC might not adequately
consider cultural and religious diversity.
●
Balancing uniformity with sensitivity to community-
specific practices is crucial.
5. Gender just UCC:
●
A gender-just UCC would prioritize principles such as
equality, non-discrimination, personal autonomy,
inclusivity, fairness, and secularism.
●
It would ensure gender inclusivity and diversity in
marriage, divorce, and other legal matters.
In summary, while the UCC has the potential to
enhance women’s rights, its implementation must be
carefully navigated to avoid unintended consequences
and respect cultural nuances.

3. Inheritance Rights:

The UCC aims to address gender disparities in
inheritance laws.
●
By providing equal inheritance rights to women,
it could empower them economically and
promote gender equality.

4. Challenges and Controversies:

Lack of trust remains a chief problem. Muslim
women, while desiring reforms in their personal
laws, are cautious about potential negative
impacts.

The seminar will feature keynote addresses by experts in the
field, panel discussions, with distinguished speakers, research
paper presentations and interactive workshops. Participants
are encouraged to submit abstracts related to the themes and
sub-themes outlined above.

 GUIDELINES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION
The title of the paper should be followed by:
● Name

● Name of the Organisation

● E-mail address

Note: It is mandatory to mention the E-mail address, as all future

correspondence will be through it. Name and contract
information of co-authors, if any.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT

● The abstract should not exceed 250 words, including 5 relevant
keywords. The abstract should be the part of the full paper and
required to be submitted as a single document with full paper .

● The following information, in the given format, should be

submitted along with the abstract:
Name of the participants, official designation/institution details,
address and E-mail id, title of abstract, should be sent along with
the abstract.

 FULL PAPER

● Abstract & Full paper has to be submitted together as a single

document as a soft copy in both MS word format and pdf format
(typed in times New Roman, font size 14 for headings and font size
12 for normal text with 1.5 spacing & font size 10 with 1.0 spacing for
footnotes).

● Citation format: Please use footnotes rather than endnotes.

Footnotes should conform to the Indian Law institute, New Delhi
Style.

● Submission of the Abstract: A cover letter with the name(s) of the

author(s) and address, designation, institution/affiliation, the title of
the manuscript and contact information (E-mail, Phone, etc.) is to be
submitted compulsorily.

● The title of the paper will be followed by name, Designation, Name

of the organisation/university institution and E-mail address. It is
mandatory to mention the E-mail address, as all future
correspondence will be through it; name and details of the co-
authors, if any.

● The length of the paper should not exceed more than 5,000 words.
