The Dust Bowl was a terrible environmental and economic crisis that occurred in

the Great Plains region of the United States during the 1930s. This event was
caused by misuse of land and drought combined and the result of many natural
and human things that led to crop failures, and the living hardship for the people
living in the areas. In this essay, I will explain how the Dust Bowl was caused and
its impact on the people.

Firstly the main causes of the dust bowl was caused by misuse of land and a
combination of a drought according to source 1 paragraph 5 it states “Originally
covered with grasses that held the fine soil in place, the land of the southern
plains was plowed by settlers who brought their farming techniques with them
when they homesteaded the area. Wheat crops, in high demand during World
War I, exhausted the topsoil. Overgrazing by cattle and sheep herds stripped the
western plains of their cover. When the drought hit, the land just blew away in the
wind.” This means that plowers made a bad decision on the choice of land and
then the drought cme and messed things up even more. That is how misuse of
land caused the dust bowl. Another piece of evidence on how the dust bowl was
caused is

On the other hand, the dust bowl led to crop failures and struggles of farming.
According to source 2 paragraph 3 it states “Yet such fields are a menace to all
the cultivated land or pasture ground around them and present a most difficult
problem.” This means that The Dust Bowl led to farmers' crops getting wiped out
and The drought made these problems worse by drying out the soil. When strong
winds blew across the barren land, they lifted massive amounts of dust into the
air, creating massive dust storms in a region in a thick layer of dirt. Another piece
of evidence is that according to sources 2 paragraph 1 it states “the confusion of
mind resulting from the overthrow of all plans for improvement or normal farm
work, and the difficulty of making other plans, even in a tentative way. This
means that the Dust Bowl made it harder or even impossible for farmers to grow
crops.

In conclusion, the Dust Bowl was a devastating environmental and economic

crisis that had a profound impact on the people who lived in the affected areas.
The development of the dust bowl was made by many natural and human
factors, including poor land management practices and environmental conditions.
