The Great Depression was a major economic disaster due to a lot of stock market

crashes, bank runs, and poor money management. That lasted from 1929 to 1939. During the
Great Depression there was a huge reason as to why country folk were facing it just as terrible
as urban people, the reasons were that were was poor farming and decrease in farming
productions. All these were due to dust storms like the “Dust Bowl”. The dust bowls were also
known as “Black Blizzards” since like a blizzard it was extremely hard to see. The reason to why
dust bowls happened were due to human action.

Mother nature is meant to be kept as “she” is. She is not to be tempered with or changed
with. For it is the cycle of nature to take care of itself. People like the federal government started
messing with mother nature. And due to their activities, were a major reason as to how dust
bowls occurred. Evidence to back this up would be in the Henderson Letter ( Doc A). Where the
text states it is due to the “various activities of the federal government” as to why dust storms
happen. Another way people caused dust storms was because, of the actions of the American
culture. Where people changed the environment for their own doings. Such as the text in doc D
states that, “The dust bowl...came about because of the expansionary energy of the
U.S...destroying the delicate ecological balance.”

Finally, people also caused the dust storms because they did not know how to care of
nature. For example, in the document about the government report, the text stated how due to
too much farming/ wrong farming, “The Great Plains will become increasingly unstable and
unsafe...unless improper farming methods are prevented.” Document E ( Hurt Excerpt) also
supports the claim by the text stating that farmers were not wise in the way they used new
technology for farming. About how farmers “gave little thought to using their new technology in
ways that would conserve oil.”

This claim can be countered, that the dust bowl was actually caused because of natural
disasters and not human actions. The document that supports the counterclaim would be in
Document E, where the quote states one way or another nature will have to take its course and
how the “periodic influence of drought could not be changed.” How dust storms are caused by
“soils subject to wind erosion, drought which killed the soil-holding vegetation” and vice versa…

Rethink back to the claim. Were dust storms caused by human actions or mother nature
just taking its course? Dust storms were mainly caused by human action since the actions of
humans impacted nature majorly enough to make dust storms common. All due to not taking
care of nature right, not thinking about conserving soil or energy...
