Principal Message
Dear Parents,
This is our new school year everyone! I would like to warmly welcome all our new students and their
families to our school. Our Kindergarten classes began Monday. Kindergarten students completed their
Best Start Assessment last week to prepare their learning program for their first year of primary school.
I would like to welcome our new staff members; Mrs Hare has returned in the Assistant Principal role
for Kindergarten. Miss Matharu 2M, Miss Carter 3C, Miss Bakker 4M, Mrs Thakur 5T, Mrs Tandon—Hindi
and Mrs Da Silva. I am sure these teachers will make a positive contribution to our school over the next
few year.
Our class organisation is based on the most appropriate placement for students within our school
staffing allocation. Our student enrolment allows one more class. Year One classes will be reorganised
to form a new class and reduce class numbers to the required 22 students. Our new Year 1 class will be
formed over the next few weeks and begin when a new classroom is installed. Parents of all students af-
fected will be informed.
This year our school will under go significant changes to school facilities. Our school is part of a pi-
lot program to build modular school buildings to reduce the number of buildings and increase the play-
ground areas for students. This is a very exciting opportunity. At present planning has begun. I will inform
the community as this program progresses throughout the year. While we may have an increase in the
number of demountable classrooms, they will be a temporary arrangement until the building program is
completed.
A big thank you to those parents who have been volunteering in the uniform shop. It has been a
very busy week and it is impressive to all see our students in full school uniform. It shows great pride in our
school.
I encourage all parents to attend our next P&C meeting on Wednesday 21 February to support the
school and ensure the services we have provided in the past continue this year for our students and fami-
lies.
Girraween P.S. has a long tradition of providing high quality education programs with high expec-
tations and high achievement. We all need to continue working together to ensure our school maintains
high academic standards and continues to offer a well rounded education including academic, creative
arts, sports, respect and responsibility as well as maintaining a happy and safe learning environment.
We’ve had a very positive start to the school year. I look forward to another productive year for our school
community here at Girraween P.S.
Regards,

G. Walker
