1. Given that , express in the form and hence state the values of a

form a discussion group from 7 boys and 8 girls. In how many ways can the group be
chosen if there must be at least four boys in the group. (05 marks)

8. Two particles A and B of masses 3kg and 5kg are connected by a fine string passing
over a smooth fixed pulley. Find
i) their common acceleration.

9. a) The gradient function of a curve at a point is 2x-6. If point B(0,13) lies on
the curve.
i) Find the equation of the curve
ii) Determine the coordinates and nature of its turning point

10. The table below shows the marks obtained by 76 candidates in a subsidiary mathematics examination.

a) Calculate;
i) the price relatives for each item (05 marks)
ii) simple aggregate price index (03 marks)
iii) the weighted aggregate price index and comment on your result. (04 marks)
b) If the cost of making a toasted bread in 2018 was shs 2,200. Estimate the cost in
2017 of making toasted bread. (03 marks)

12. a) The probability that a driver will cause an accident on a journey is 0.3. If he makes
12 such journeys what is the probability that:-
i) exactly 10 of the journeys have accidents
ii) four to five inclusive journeys have accidents. (07 marks)
c) The marks obtained by UCE candidates were found to be normally distributed
with mean 50% and standard deviation 10%.

i) Determine the percentage of candidates who obtained more than 70%


marks
ii) What is the percentage of the candidates who obtained between 40% and

13. A cake is made up of the ingredients; flour, oil, eggs and sugar. A sample of three
cakes made by a certain bakery was found to have been made from:

Cake A; 2kg of flour, 1 litre of oil, 8 eggs and 250g of sugar.

Cake B; 3kg of flour, 2 litres of oil, 12 eggs and 500g of sugar.

Cake C; 5kg of flour, 2.5 litres of oil,20 eggs and 750g of sugar.

In 2017, the cost of a kg of flour, a litre of oil, an egg and a kg of sugar were shs 2,200,
shs 2,500, shs 400 and shs 3,200 respectively.

In 2018, the cost of a kg of flour, a litre of oil, an egg and a kg of sugar were shs 3,000,
shs 3,000 , shs 500 and shs 3,600 respectively

i) Write down a 3 x 4 matrix to represent the ingredient items of the cakes and
4 × 1 matrices for the costs of the items in the two years.
ii) Using matrix multiplication, calculate the total cost of making the three cakes for
each of the years 2017 and 2018

iii) What is the difference between the costs in the two years (15 marks)

14 . A particle of mass 3kg slides from rest down a rough plane inclined at 30o to the
horizontal. The coefficient of friction between the particle and the plane is 0.3.
Find the;
i) normal reaction of the plane
ii) frictional force exerted on the body
iii) acceleration of the particle
iv) how far it travels in 4 seconds (15 marks)
