Case Based Learning (CBL)
Learning Objectives:  To define and classify Gingival enlargement
 To describe the major etiological factors and clinical features
 To discuss the Risk factors, prevention and treatment of gingival
enlargement

Case: Triggers:

A is 36-years old female patient came to OPD with complain of bleeding gums  Bleeding
and swelling gums
 Swelling
She gave history of bleeding when she brushes her teeth. She thought that  Supra-
maybe it was due to hard brushing. She also complained that her gums are very gingival
tender when she brushes. She has hypertension and she is taking Nifedipine. calculus
 Medical
On oral examination, the gingiva is red around the margins, bead-like history
enlargement of the interdental papilla that then extends to the marginal gingiva,  BOP
BOP, supra-gingival calculus on mandibular anterior teeth lingual surface

On probing with the periodontal probe, It measures 4 mm (because the marginal


gingiva is erythemic and edematous)

Plaque index was 2 Gingival index was 3

On radiographic examination there is no evidence of bone loss and mobility.

Task:

 Diagnose the above condition


 Explain the cause of the condition and management
