Assignment II

As the founders of this software have defined it, Scrum is a framework within which

people can address complex adaptive problems, while productively and creatively delivering

products of the highest possible value. (Scrum.Org)

With Scrum, people, teams, and organizations can generate value through adaptive solutions to

complex problems.

In project Management, Scrum is used to guide a group of people, which allows them to break

their work into smaller tasks or iterations, while each task is assessed progressively and reviewed

at the end of each phase in order to reflect and improve. Therefore, scrum is not a methodology:

it is rather a software that implements a scientific method that replaces a programmed

algorithmic approach with a heuristic one, helping the organization and its people to deal with

complex and unpredictable problems within project management.

Therefore, it is safe to say that Scrum can also be used for a non-software project.

The framework that Scrum represents may not be suitable with traditional construction

techniques per se; however, if you have requirements that are likely to evolve over the course of

the project, and at least some technical unknowns about how exactly the work will be completed,

Scrum will likely be your go-to.

Moreover, being agile is important in every environment, even for a non-software project. With

Scrum you will be able to limit unnecessary upfront planning and the team can get to work

producing a result that delivers business value now. It is always on the go and up to date,

addressing pivoting and changing priorities, like changes in business needs, customer demand,

and shifts in the market.

So, in a nutshell, this software help turning complex problems into smaller iterations called

“sprints”. Scrum Team and its stakeholders inspect the results and adjust for the next Sprint.

Scrum is built around a small group of people called a Scrum Team. One Scrum Master, one

Product Owner, and developers make up the Scrum Team. There are no sub-teams or hierarchies

in a Scrum Team. It is a group of professionals who work together to achieve one goal at a time.

Scrum in Action as described by its founders (scrum.org)

Prescribed events are used in Scrum to create regularity and to minimize the need for meetings

not defined in Scrum. All events are time-boxed. Once a Sprint begins, its duration is fixed and

cannot be shortened or lengthened. The remaining events may end whenever the purpose of the

event is achieved, ensuring an appropriate amount of time is spent without allowing waste in the

process. The Scrum Events are: Sprint (fixed length events of one month or less- helps in

creating consistency-A new Sprint starts immediately after the conclusion of the previous

Sprint), Sprint Planning (initiates the Sprint by laying out the work to be performed. This

resulting plan is created by the collaborative work of the entire Scrum Team), Daily Scrum ( is a

method that allows the inspection of the progress taken toward the Sprint Goal, while adjusting

the upcoming planned work), Sprint Review (allows the inspection of the outcome of the Sprint

and determines future adaptations. Results are presented to key stakeholders and progress

toward the Product

Goal is discussed). Finally, the Sprint Retrospective (helps plan ways to increase quality and

effectiveness)

The Scrum Values

Scrum is a multipurpose and team-based approach in software development. The fact that it can

be used with sophisticate and tight projects makes it attractive for software development. The

least to say is that Scrum actually shortens the development by allowing developers to move

quickly and change course easily if necessary.

Scrum can be in the interest of many technology leaders due to many reasons.

First of all, Scrum has a topmost advantage of helping people meet deadlines and client

requirements, all while collecting user feedback at the same time. This ultimately results in

satisfied or even delighted customers.

Second, Scrum helps lower production costs since it is possible with Scrum where to use story

pointing to approximate the complexity of any task, thus allowing the team to have a more

accurate estimate of the cost of developing new features. In addition, developers can prioritize

and pivot according to the complexity of the tasks.

Furthermore, with Scrum, every team member is as important as the other in the process of

developing the product. Within this framework, the entire team is given higher value when it

comes to decision making efforts- Everyone in the team can check on the progress of each task

assigned to different team members thereby nurturing its effectiveness. As you may know, in any

team, a closer collaboration enhances the team’s dynamics and guarantees a more productive

environment.

With seeing and evaluating results right after each sprint, feedback can be given quickly, which

can ultimately be used to continuously iterate the product until you come up with the final output

that will satisfy all stakeholders, and that is inline with what they need, since the data is actually

coming from the actual users.

Another reason why users might be interested in Scrum in software development because it

provides high level transparency, which is a common problem with many software developments

projects. With the results being reviewed on every sprint, transparency and

6|Page
predictability is ensured, allowing the team so monitor the success of the product each step at a

time.

Last but not least, Scrum’s main purpose is delivering the best results with the highest quality.

Quality assurance procedures, such as continuous integration, are used by software engineers to

verify that all products are defect-free and guaranteed perfect. Scrum has a zero tolerance for

flaws at each stage of the sprint cycle, ensuring that clients are satisfied when the product is

released.

In what kind of project can Scrum be used?

Above all else, Scrum is about a small group of individuals collaborating effectively to

provide iterative work. Team members must be ready for communication and collaboration, as

well as be willing to switch responsibilities as needed in order to provide a viable product and

satisfy sprint goals throughout the sprint. It also allows people to stay on the same page no matter

where they work by employing the capabilities above in a cloud-based visual workspace for

example. It's crucial to remember that the Scrum technique is simply one approach to project

management, yet it can be used with any sort of project with a lot of agility and changes. In the

fast-moving world that we live in today, and with the iterative and adaptive Agile framework that

is provided by Scrum, I believe that a lot sum of projects is fit for this software that will help

organizations respond faster to customers and change, and build better products.

Scrum can now be applied to projects in varied sectors including healthcare, defense, insurance,

government, banking and more. However, there are a few questions you need to

7|Page
ask yourself before you leap into it and do the roper research of learning the success rates of

scrum in similar projects, and the risks associated with its adoption.

In all cases, if the project that you are working on is tight and complex, Scrum will be your go-

to, taking into consideration important factors such as the team size, team flexibility, and the type

of project your team is tackling. It all depends on what to apply and when.

It is not surprising that more engineers are now using Scrum for both project management and

software development. Scrum could, overall, result in increased revenue and business growth.
