• Systems Administrator
• Plans, develops, installs, troubleshoots, maintains and supports an operating system and associated
server hardware, software and databases ensuring optimum system integrity, security, backup and
performance. (ANZSCO, SFIA, NICE)
• Infrastructure Engineer (APS)
This slide shows three job roles that a graduate specialising in network and cyber
security may be prepared for. The names and descriptions are taken from ANZSCO.
However they may have other names, some examples are also listed. When companies
are recruiting, they will typically use these names or similar ones.
Note there is often overlap between the three roles list. For example, an employee may
act as both a network administrator and a systems administrator. And a network
administrator performs tasks of a ICT security specialist, and an ICT security specialist
performs system admin tasks.
As you progress in your career you may start to specialise, or remain in a general role.
There are many opportunities for graduates with networking and cyber security
background.
We briefly introduce the NIST NICE Workforce framework. While there are other
frameworks and job classifications, one benefit of NICE is that it defines knowledge and
skills in detail. That means a student new to this area (i.e. you) should be able to identify
some of the knowledge/skills expected of job roles defined by NICE. Whereas some of
the other frameworks are not as specific as NICE, and therefore it is harder for new
students to relate to the defined knowledge/skills.
As you progress through your course, the other more general frameworks and
classifications will become more useful for you.
One limitation of NICE is that it focusses on cyber security. While it covers aspects of
network administration and systems administration, there is not as much as in other
frameworks/classifications.
Other Frameworks
• Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA)
• IT Infrastructure (ITOP), Network Design (NTDS), Network Support (NTAS),
Information Security (SCTY), Security Operations (SCAD), Problem
Management (PBMG), Service Level Management (SLMO), Change Control
(CHMG)
• ACS members can assess with MySFIA
• Australian Information Industry Association (aiia) Skills Hub
If you are a member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) then you can conduct self‐
assessments against SFIA with MySFIA:
https://www.acs.org.au/professionalrecognition/mysfia‐b2c.html
The AIIA Skills Hub also offers students the ability to self‐assess their ICT skills.
Industry Certifications
These are example/popular entry level certifications that this unit contributes to. Entry‐
level usually does not require any work experience or other certifications. While it is
useful to have entry‐level certifications across multiple areas (e.g. one in networking and
one in security), there is not as much benefit in having multiple entry‐level certifications
in the same area (e.g. multiple entry‐level networking certifications). Once you have an
entry‐level certification, start planning the next level up.
Most of these require a paid exam, usually $100’s or in some cases $1000’s. You may be
able to get discounts or even free certifications as a student, e.g. Microsoft offer free
certifications.

Pricing Calculator
The Pricing Calculator is a tool that helps you estimate the cost of Azure products.
The options that you can configure in the Pricing Calculator vary between products,
but basic configuration options include:
• Region
• Tier
• Billing options
• Support options
• Programs and offers
• Azure dev/test pricing

Note: The pricing calculator provides estimates, and not actual price quotes. Actual prices can vary
depending upon the date of purchase, the payment currency, and the type of Azure customer.

Azure Blueprints
Azure Blueprints makes it possible for development teams to rapidly build and stand
up new environments. Development teams can quickly build trust through
organizational compliance with a set of built-in components (such as networking) in
order to speed up development and delivery.

Azure Policy
Azure Policy helps to enforce organizational standards and to assess compliance at-
scale. Provides governance and resource consistency with regulatory compliance,
security, cost, and management.
• Evaluates and identifies Azure resources that
do not comply with your policies.
• Provides built-in policy and initiative
definitions, under categories such as Storage,
Networking, Compute, Security Center, and
Monitoring.

compliance/3-describe-purpose-of-azure-policy
Stay compliant with your corporate standards and service level agreements (SLAs) by
using policy definitions to enforce rules and effects for your Azure resources.

which resources are linked by a dependency. You can apply tags to resources to
categorize them for management tasks, such as billing.
Control access to resources
With Azure Resource Manager, you can control who in your organization can
perform actions on the resources. You manage permissions by defining roles and
adding users or groups to the roles. For critical resources, you can apply an explicit
lock that prevents users from deleting or modifying the resource. Azure Resource
Manager logs all user actions so you can audit those actions. For each action, the
audit log contains information about the user, time, events, and status.
