American writer, Louise May Alcott, gives us a taste of a touching tale of love,

sisterhood and hardship during the New England Civil War. «Little Women» is
a good example of a classical novel for people of all ages. It was first published
in 1868. And even nowadays, this book attracts the attention of many people. It
still lives in the hearts of adults and teenagers.
By and large, the story is about the lovable March sisters. A reader can see
their journey from childhood to adulthood through pages of this book. Meg,
Beth, Jo and Amy try to support their mother while their father is away at the
war. Each of the girls dreams of something, although it’s important to say that
their desires are very different. The most important thing which fascinated me a
lot is the love between the family members. I was really shocked when Jo sold
her hair for the recovery of her father. I kind of think “Little Women” makes
you believe in the inexhaustible power of the female spirit.
The best thing about «Little Women» would be the characters. Each of them is
unique and has different personalities. Jo is determined and she always achieves
what she wants. She has got a bit of a temper which leads her into troubles. This
girl is obsessed with writing books. Beth has got a musical quality, and loves to
play the piano. Amy, the youngest, is ambitious and she wishes to become rich.
My favorite one is the eldest sister – Meg March. She is such a romantic,
demure and responsible woman. The fact that Meg has sacrificed her interests
and dreams for her family made me absolutely sad. She has left school and gone
to earn money. This woman hates her job, but she is trying to do her best,
because of her loved ones. No doubt, Meg dreams of needing nothing, but each
time she faces a new challenge from her fate. Throughout the entire book Meg
must balance her dreams and hopes with her heart, without losing herself in the
process. Other characters were Mr. March, Mrs. March, Laurie, John, Old Mr.
Laurence, Hannah, Aunt March. Every character is aptly weaved.
It seems to me that the style of writing «Little Women» is elegant and
evocative. It transports readers to the daily lives of the characters. The author's
mastery of language allows her to convey emotional nuances and make every
scene memorable.
When I was reading this book, I was overwhelmed with different emotions.
Sometimes my tears were running down my cheeks and sometimes I couldn't
help laughing. The author made it possible to feel all the feelings of the
characters. Also, Louise May Alcott convinced me that happiness can not be
bought by money and having a family is the best gift.
