HOST INSTRUCTION GUIDE

HOST START HERE

Welcome to the Bullets on Broadway Murder Mystery Party! As the host, you get to act as the
casting director, scenic designer, props master, producer and more as you begin to set up the details
of your party!

STEP ONE: READ THE CAST LIST BELOW

We recommend you start by reading our cast list below to get an idea of the (flexible) roles available
for guests to play at your party. The roles in bold are highly recommended to include.

Cast List
● Idina Mental: Sexy and sultry, Idina’s the leading lady everyone dreams of and she knows
it. Her long gown and ruby red lips are enough to make any man kill.
● Matthew Broadneck: Matthew’s the leading man a bit past his prime with something to
prove.
● Billy Bergamont: Billy is a dashing young playwright with wit and charm…maybe too much
for his own good.

performance, and the hope that she could get Idina Mental’s autograph…and maybe more.
● Lue Jackman: Lue is a flamboyant, over the top, character actor dressed in brightly colored
clothes. He’s clearly overcompensating for some deeply held secret.
● Kaitlyn Chinnoweth: Kaitlyn is a busty blonde actress who likes to show skin and get
attention...and sometimes she catches the wrong eye.
● Audrey Torium: Audrey is a mousy and meek usher with a timid demeanor...or so she likes
people to think.

● Trip Fallington: : Trip is the trap door operator and a tough guy with tattoos and a criminal
record.
● Franky Stub: Franky is a meek and nervous Box Office boy who’s always late for work. He has
a pimple face, bowl cut hair and he’s got a stutter.
● Sienna Stealer: Sienna is an actress in the show. She’s a loose cannon and always drunk
or hopped up on something.
● Anita Part: A young actress fresh to New York City. She’s green, wide eyed, and overly
enthusiastic…with a secret past.

shoes.

He carries his guitar everywhere and loves to strum.
● Robert Whineman: Robert is a greasy sleeze ball talent agent with slicked back hair and a
black eye.
● Ivana Cut: Ivana is Idina Mental’s agent and will do anything to get her commission
check...even if it means making a killer deal.

STEP TWO: MAKE YOUR GUEST LIST

With 20 different roles available, you could host a party for up to 20 people! We recommend having
6-20 guests in attendance.

Use the information provided in Step One to decide which roles you’d like each of your guests to
play. And remember, the host can play too!

We’ve also included a set of invitations for you to print and mail if that’s your style, or you can attach
the invitation to an email for an e-vite!

www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com
The information that each guest should receive prior to the party is:

● Date
● Time
● Location
● Their character and character description
● Costume Suggestions

NOTE: You do not need to send them their character booklet in advance. That can be provided to
them when they arrive at the party.

STEP THREE: PLAN YOUR PARTY

Each party is unique and with our flexible player party pack you can host your party any way you like!

Food and Drink: This game can be played over a sit-down meal, as a buffet, or hors d'oeuvres-style
set up, where guests are allowed to mingle.

Music: We recommend creating a Broadway musical themed playlist on your music-streaming

service of choice to help your guests get in the mood for this Broadway-themed Murder Mystery!

www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com
Decorations: This Broadway-themed Murder Mystery is set on the opening night of a brand-new
Broadway musical that takes place in the roaring 20’s, so theatrical elements suggestive of the
1920’s could be incorporated to set the mood.

Duration: This game can vary based on the level of participation by guests, but a good rule of thumb
is each guest adds 10-15 minutes to the party playing time. So if you have 8 people participating, the
estimated time would run at 80-120 minutes.

STEP FOUR: PREPARE YOUR GAME MATERIALS

Prepare your game materials for the party. Below is a list of everything you will need in order to play
the game:

Who Did It Slips: Print the Who Did It Slips provided with the game, cut them out, and fold them in
half. You should be sure to use the “Murderer” Slip and however many “Innocent” slips needed for
each guest. The slips are each numbered 1-19 (plus the “Murderer” Slip). This will be used at the end
of the party to make final statements of innocence or guilt. Be sure to fold up the slips and throw
them in a bowl or hat and shuffle them up. At the start of the party each guest should pick a slip
from the bowl and keep their slip secret. The person who receives the “Murderer” slip is the murderer
for the entire game.

Print Character Booklets: As the host you can decide which characters will be included at the party.
Print one copy of each character booklet that has been assigned to a guest at the party. We
recommend stapling them for your guests.

Questions Menu: Print one copy of the Questions Menu. Throughout the run of the game, characters
are encouraged to ask other characters questions as a way to get more information and clues as to
who the murderer could be. Anyone is welcome to ask a question of another guest and this is how
dirty details about their past are revealed.

Evidence: There are 4 pieces of group evidence as part of this game. The Detective role narration is
provided with your game, which you can listen to by visiting
www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com/bullets-on-broadway-thank-you to access the videos online.

www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com
The evidence narration should be played at the start of each round. Or, if you choose to read the
evidence aloud from the Evidence Booklet, print one copy of that booklet.

Awards: Print the Award Certificates, which will be used at the end of the game if desired to give out
awards for best acting, best costume and more. This is optional (but fun)!

STEP FIVE: PLAYING THE GAME

As guests arrive:
1. Welcome your guests and give each person their character sheet as they arrive. They should
not open them until directed by you. When you are ready to start the mingling in character,
invite them to open their booklet to the first page.
2. Each guest should also pick a “Who Did It Slip” and be informed that they should keep it
secret. This slip tells each guest whether or not they are the murderer. If they are not the
murderer, it also includes a number, which denotes the order in which guests should read
their final statements. Guests should NOT reveal this information.

Starting the Game:

It can be nice to let guests arrive and mingle before officially starting the game. Each character
packet includes a brief description of the character and information that they can share while
mingling, as well as secret information for their eyes only.

When you are ready for the introductions, start by playing or reading the Introduction Narration
provided with your materials. Next, have each character read the “INTRODUCE YOURSELF AT THE
START OF THE GAME” section in their character packet.

When you are ready to start Act One, follow these steps:

1. Reveal the Evidence: Listen to the Act One: Starting Evidence Narration or read it aloud from
the “Evidence Booklet.”
2. Questioning: Once everyone has listened to the Detective and heard the evidence, it’s time
for each guest to ask another guest one question from the “Question Menu” for Act One.
Choose one person to start with a question, then when you’ve heard the answer it’s time to

www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com
pass the question sheet to another guest to ask a new question from the menu. If a
particular character is missing from the cast, there is no need to ask the question from the
menu. You can simply skip that question. This round of questioning should continue until all
present guests have asked and answered a question.

Moving to Act Two:

Once all of the questions for Act One have been asked and answered, it’s time to move on to Act
Two. This could also be a nice time for a brief break for food or drinks if desired.

When you are ready to start Act Two, you will do the same as instructed above, but using the
content for Act Two.
1. Reveal the Act Two: Evidence by Playing or Reading the Evidence Narration
2. Questioning for Act Two from the Question Menu

Once all questions from the Question Menu for Act Two have been asked and answered it’s time to
either pause again or continue to Act Three.

Moving on to Act Three:

When you are ready to start Act Three, you will do the same as instructed above, but using the
content for Act Three.
3. Reveal the Act Three: Evidence by Playing or Reading the Evidence Narration
4. Questioning for Act Three from the Question Menu

Once all questions from the Question Menu for Act Three have been asked and answered it’s time to
end the game.

STEP SIX: ENDING THE GAME

Now it’s time to end the game and reveal the murderer. Follow the steps below.
1. Accusations: Each guest should make their own accusation as to who they think the
murderer is. It’s fun to include reasoning as to why they think that character is the murderer,
but this is optional.
2. Final Statements: Each guest should look at their “Who Did It Slip” to review the number in
which they are assigned to read their final statement. Then in order of lowest to highest

www.BroadwayMurderMysteries.com
(starting with 1) guests should read their final statements section in the character booklet.
Any guest that has a number 1-19 should read the “Innocent” statement. The person who has
the “Murderer” slip should read THE MURDERER statement LAST.
3. Who Wins? The winner(s) are those who guess the murderer correctly!

We hope you enjoy your deadly trip to Broadway! Break a leg!
