With the left hand hold loosely both ends of threads and turn
the balance wheel with the right hand to let the needle
penetrate the point from which to start sewing.
Lower the presser foot on the cloth and start sewing.

16
TO TURN CORNER

1. Stop sewing with the needle in the fabric and lift the presser foot.
2. Turn the fabric around the needle.
3. Lower the presser foot and start to sew again.

TO FINISH SEAM
I. At the end of a seam, press the reverse feed knob to sew a few

2. Stop the machine when the thread take-up lever is at its highest
point. Raise the presser foot and remove the fabric away from you.
3. Sever the thread with either the thread cutter slotted in the presser
bar or with a pair of scissors, leaving about 5 inches of thread from
the eve of the needle.

BASIC SEWING CYCLE

When vou come to the etid of the seam and it is necessary to remove
the work from the nmachline, it is most important to complete the last
stitch Cycle folly before lifting the presser foot from the material.
This is done by turning the balance wheel towards you inorder that
both the ncedle and the take-up lever are at their highest position. You
will then find that the work is easily removed from the machine after
You lift the presser foot, and the machine is in the correct starting
position for the next searn.

Turn the balance wheel towards

you. Tlie needle and the take-Lp
lever are at their highiest position. Lift tite presser foat.

position and leave the material free from any pressure
from the presser foot. A
For sewing thin or light fabrics, press the top of the r
regulator (B) down slightly to get the required light h
pressure on the fabric.
For sewing thicker or heavier fabrics, push the top of
the regulator down further, in order to get a stronger
pressure on the presser foot on the fabric.

TO USE DROP FEED DEVICE

Darning and embroidering is facilitated by means of the special drop
feed device which can be operated by the stitch length regulator knob.
Turn the stitch length regulator knob to the mark (DOWN) and the 2
feed dog will drop below the surface of the needle plate permitting the
free movement of thle cloth.3
The feed dog resumes its normal operation when the stitch length Mi

Stingle-thread cliaistitehing looks like regular straight stitching on top, but is a series of interlocking loops
on the underside of the fabric. Because the stitches are formed by only tipper thread, the stitches unravel
easily with just a pull on the thread end. Chain stitch is useful for basting, embroidery, etc.
