He enters just as Lindsey jumps out of the second-story window, and he watches her run back to her
own house. As more and more bodies connected to Harvey are turned up throughout the Northeast,
Len compiles evidence. Jack remains convinced he is Susie’s killer, and has been making calls to the
police all summer to report his theories. After her death, her body is not traceable so the bones refer
to hers which her family and the police search. I did read up about the movie and found that it is
directed by Peter Jackson, the director that rose to fame with his work on the Lord Of The Rings
films. I think it would take a director with training in fantasy films to bring the heaven sequences to
life on screen. Ray Singh, also preoccupied by Susie’s death, begins joining Ruth on these walks, and
they bond over their shared feelings of loneliness and their mutual obsession with Susie. In The
Lovely Bones, Susie Salmon proves to be an incredibly brave teenage girl, never seeming to show
fear of each unknown she experiences, aside from her brutal rape and murder. Stanley Tucci plays
the sick and twisted neighbor George Harvey, Susie's murderer. (I'm not really giving anything away
in saying that-Susie's murder takes place in the very first chapter and Harvey introduces himself
before the act, the story isn't about proving her murder, but more about tracking down where the guy
went and finding enough evidence to convict him, a task that proves pretty elusive). One day, Len
arrives at the Salmon house to tell Jack to stop calling about Harvey. She realised that this could be
her sister’s elbow and would mean she is really gone. As Susie watches Lindsey and Samuel make
love, she remarks that “How to Commit the Perfect Murder” is an oft-played game in heaven, and
that she always chooses an icicle because the weapon melts away. She made her literary mark by this
debut novel which was published in 2002 and became a bestseller. The author herself understands
what this family experiences. We also use third-party cookies that help us analyze and understand

throws Susie down on the ground. As she observes their daily lives, she must balance her thirst for
revenge with her desire for her family to heal. Our customer service team will review your report and

the family she abandoned back together. For a long time, her body remains untraceable, and her
murderer is not identified and punished. An icicle falls from the diner’s overhang and strikes
Harvey, knocking him off balance and into the ravine. Jack is admitted to the hospital and sent into
surgery. The death of Susie was the last straw for Abigail and she couldn’t cope anymore so she had
to leave and sort out things for herself for once and not for everyone else. The story is about a
teenage girl named Susie who was raped and killed on her way home from school. The book is
Sebold expressing her feelings about what happened to her and expanding them. The painful
experience leaves a psychological scar in her mind. As the first anniversary of Susie’s death
approaches, Lindsey asks her father whether he is still convinced that Mr. Harvey is responsible for
Susie’s murder, and Jack tells her that there is no doubt in his mind. Review 1 Select overall rating

neighbour’s dog, Lindsey had all the proof she needed that Susie was dead. Susie’s experience of
heaven as conceptualized by Alice Sebold doesn’t relate to commonly-held cultural or religious
interpretations of the afterlife. As the reader, we know what happened to susie, but her family does
not know.
On one side there is love, hatred, and crime and on the other side, there is a description of afterlife
desires and expectations. There, he finds not Harvey, but Susie’s friend Clarissa —in a moment of
delusion, believing Clarissa to be Susie herself, Jack leaps toward Clarissa. Write a review Update

Susie’s death, Ruth and Ray take some candles out to the cornfield to memorialize her. Heaven is not
perfect for Susie because she still bears the pain of the devastating experience that happened to her.
Outside the diner, at the edge of a sharp embankment which leads down to a ravine below, Harvey
attempts to engage the woman in conversation, but she rebuffs him. Ruth attempts to ask Lindsey
about Susie, despite Lindsey’s desire to break out of her role as the dead girl’s sister and make
friends on her own terms. The final week of the symposium always concludes in a camp-wide
competition. Flipping through it, she finds a schematic for an underground structure to be built in the
cornfield behind the junior high. Reviews Select overall rating (no rating) Your rating is required to

year after Susie’s death as he tries to find the slaughterer. Harvey apologizes for Jack’s loss, and as it
begins to snow, the two men set to work. On a cold and dark December day Susie was walking
home from her junior high school and decided to take a shortcut through a cornfield that led right
into her development. At the church, friends and neighbors have gathered to say goodbye to Susie.
Back on earth, Susie’s parents, Jack and Abigail, her younger sister, Lindsey, and her four-year-old
brother Buckley struggle as Detective Len Fenerman brings them the news that the investigation of
Susie’s disappearance has turned into a murder investigation. Back at home, Jack places a call to Len
Fenerman and says that he believes Harvey knows something about Susie’s death. I was expecting
more in the way of activities, but unfortunately this was lacking. He does not have any proof that Mr
Harvey is the killer but he just has a feeling. He asked for her help to make sure that everything was
perfect for them, he convinced her to check it out and she agreed. Lindsey is rattled by the news,
and she and Samuel retreat down to the lake. Once the structure is finished, Jack accuses Harvey of
knowing something about Susie’s murder. While at first this is amazing to Susie, over time she
realizes that having all the tangible things she could ever hope for will not give her back the chances
she had stolen from her on Earth, chances of falling in love, fulfilling her dream of being a wildlife
photographer, never knowing sex, marriage, motherhood. Abigail, at the winery, receives news of an
emergency—she calls the local hospital in Norristown and learns that Jack has had a heart attack.
Throughout the movie, she is trying to get the attention of anyone so that she could have the mystery
of her murder solved. This was Lindsey’s way of accepting her sister’s murder. Show replies

quite what you were looking for. The Lovely Bone is a novel that catches the attention of readers
from the very opening lines. Mr. Harvey arrives home, and, hearing movement upstairs, goes to his
bedroom. We feel hugely sympathetic towards Lindsey because of all these reasons and we also feel
pity for her having to grow up with this weight on her shoulders. Toward the end of the memorial,
Lindsey sees George Harvey standing just outside the church, looking in. Another theme of good
versus evil has also flowed throughout the story which involves the Salmon family dealing with the
impact of evil and allowing goodness to flow out. Reply Delete Replies Reply littlefatmamaT May 4,

especially those who are close to Susie. I can’t see the study papers I submitted in my profile. She
accepts. Ruth, in New York City, receives a call from her father—the sinkhole at the edge of
Norristown is slated to close. It is mandatory to procure user consent prior to running these cookies

shattered the easygoing life of the town. As the school year begins she is now known not just as the
sister of the dead girl, but as the daughter of the town crackpot—news of Jack’s mishap in the field
has begun to spread. As we are no longer doing Year 12 AS, I will be uploading a new set with all
fantasy elements in. Jack, now in possession of the sketch Lindsey stole, phones the police and asks
for Len Fenerman, but Len is unavailable. She is forced to live vicariously through the lives of her
loved ones she watches from her gazebo in heaven. One afternoon, Lindsey heads for George
Harvey’s house. Susie reveals herself to him in the shards of glass, and she and Jack both realize that
the line between the living and the dead is not so stark or final after all. When Susie left Earth, she
passed by a classmate of hers, a loner named Ruth Connors. Heaven is not perfect for Susie because
she still bears the pain of the devastating experience that happened to her. The movie starts off as a
typical family movie, with a happy family. Once Susie got into the shelter she knew that it was a
huge mistake, before she knew it he raped and killed her. Lindsey feels a certain bind with her dead
sister because she gets to live the life Susie cannot. She breaks into his basement and begins
searching the house. At the church, friends and neighbors have gathered to say goodbye to Susie.
Susie watches both joyously and jealously as her sister receives her first kiss.

begins joining Ruth on these walks, and they bond over their shared feelings of loneliness and their
mutual obsession with Susie. Clarissa’s boyfriend Brian Nelson jumps out of the corn and begins
beating Jack with his own bat. He begins kissing her, and Susie thinks of her first real kiss—it
happened just the other week, with a classmate named Ray Singh. This makes me feel sympathetic
towards him because he isn’t able to get any answers and just has to accept that this happened to a
member of his family with no support from his wife. As he winds through his old neighborhood, he
becomes haunted by the memories of all the women he has killed, and Susie watches as their spirits
fill his car. Mr. Harvey is “living wild” along the Northeast Corridor, occasionally returning to
Norristown under cover of darkness to drive through his old neighborhood. The book appealed to me
because it was based on an experience the author had when she was in university. I did read up about
the movie and found that it is directed by Peter Jackson, the director that rose to fame with his work

for Jack’s loss, and as it begins to snow, the two men set to work. As per the author, heaven is a
complex yet progressive world in which the soul continues to grow and develop towards maturity.
We feel hugely sympathetic towards Lindsey because of all these reasons and we also feel pity for
her having to grow up with this weight on her shoulders. Study paper has been paid by royalties, but
has not been received. We also feel pity for Susie as her true feelings shine through in her narration.
The book is so poetically written that it makes the more graphic moments a little easier to stomach.
Ruth and Ray arrive at the sinkhole and stand at its edge for a few moments. Ray attends school at
University of Pennsylvania, and studies medicine; Ruth moves to New York City, where she spends
her days walking the streets, nursing her “second sight” for places where girls and women have been
murdered in the past. The Lovely Bone is a novel that catches the attention of readers from the very
opening lines. Jack remains convinced he is Susie’s killer, and has been making calls to the police all
summer to report his theories. Susie reveals the fact that she was raped and murdered by her neighbor
and shares her story from heaven. The death of a loved one results in a state of trauma which the
family members try to deal with in different ways. When she gets there, Franny - her intake
counselor- explains that in heaven, one only has to think something into existence to have it (but no
wishing yourself back to life on Earth obviously).
This was Lindsey’s way of accepting her sister’s murder. She then goes on and implies her feelings of
jealousy towards Lindsey. I would most certainly say it is one of the most underrated. Back at home,
Jack places a call to Len Fenerman and says that he believes Harvey knows something about Susie’s
death. Ruth and Ray arrive at the sinkhole and stand at its edge for a few moments. Jack is admitted
to the hospital and sent into surgery. The story is so popular among readers but it has also faced some
criticism from different sections of society. Write a review Update existing review Submit review
