Conclusion
In conclusion, the 17th century witnessed the rise of mercantilism in European countries, driving
imperial expansion, trade restrictions, and economic rivalries. While it provided impetus for
colonial endeavors and economic regulation, it also led to conflicts, high prices, and tensions with
colonies. Mercantilism's emphasis on trade balance and state control drew criticism from figures
like Adam Smith for its limitations on economic growth and distribution of wealth. Ultimately,
mercantilism left a significant mark on European economies and colonial enterprises during this
period.
