The Amalekites Defeated

8
The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to
Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I
will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

10
So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and
Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites
were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were
winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him
and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the
other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the
Amalekite army with the sword.

14
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be
remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot
out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

15
Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands
were lifted up against[a] the throne of the LORD,[b] the LORD will be at war against the
Amalekites from generation to generation.”

We all know the background of this story. When Israelites were traveling to Canaan they saw many
struggles and difficulties in that one is the war with Amalekites. We can clearly see here that Joshua
goes to War with the selected men and Moses goes to the hill. Whenever I come through this
passage I had a question in my mind why did mosses not go to the war and lead it from the front
instead sent Joshua. We can say the answers that Moses wants to pray so only. Yes, this is true but
there are some hidden things that God want to revel us through this passage. Let’s look into it
carefully.

1. God will Lead our battle we need to look upto him in the trouble.

And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Psalm
50:15

Psalm 34:17 ESV / 353 helpful votes Helpful Not Helpful

When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all
their troubles.
2. We need to stick to Him no matter what happens in our life, during the time of the trouble.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In
all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths".
Proverbs 3:5-6

Psalm 18 3 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take
refuge. He is my shield and the horn [1] of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is
worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.

3. We need to have friends or people with us to pray for one another so that even any one of
us weary the others will help us to lift up to the God.

James 5:16 ESV / 19 helpful votes Helpful Not Helpful

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that
you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it
is working.

We need to help one another in prayer.

When we look up to the lord in our troubles and stick to Him and also have
someone to pray with us nothing will be a hurdle between us and God.

God loves us so much and expects us to listen to His and do according to

His will, when we do so nothing can stop us.

Amen.
