USER MANUAL
SELF-CONTAINED LED LANTERN
GSC-3

1. GSC-3 INTRODUCTION
1.1. IALA compliance
The GISMAN GSC-3 lantern was designed and manufactured in accordance with IALA recommendations and
technical guidelines. GISMAN has been an active industrial member of IALA since 1966.
1.2. General overview
The GISMAN GSC-3 lantern is a compact, self-contained LED lantern equipped with 4 solar modules and
powered by a battery.

The lantern can be programmed using the GISMAN Bluetooth® application or an infrared programmer.

The lantern is equipped with a day/night cell allowing it to turn on at dusk and off at sunrise. Personalized
brightness thresholds can be set.

The GISMAN online solar calculator, hosted at https://calculator.gisman-web.com, can be used to confirm
the conditions of use of the lantern (range, flash code, options) according to its geographical location.
All scenariis can be configured in this tool, except if the lantern is programmed on a personalized flash
character, and/or if the lantern is programmed for day and night use. For these scenariis, please consult
Gisman if necessary.
1.3. Allard Correction
When a lantern is flashing, depending on the duration of the flash, the intensity must be increased to ensure
the visibility of the lantern at the required range. The value of the intensity peak is given by a formula called
Allard Correction. GISMAN designed the lantern so that the computation of this correction is automatic when
programming the lantern.
If the characteristics of the LED makes it impossible for the selected range to be reached, the user is notified
either by an absence of lantern return when using the Infrared programmer, or by an error message on the
GISMAN Bluetooth® mobile application.
In this case, he will have to reduce the intensity of the lantern or choose another flash code (with a longer
flash).
1.4. Various configurations available
Two battery configurations are available: 4Ah or 8Ah, which offers a longer autonomy.
Two battery technologies are available: the standard Lead Acid battery, and the Lead Crystal battery. It uses
a particular type of electrolyte that crystallizes over the course of the cycles which offers superior
performance. Thus, it can be charged 40% faster, accepts deep discharges without irreversible damage (down
to 0V under certain conditions).
In addition, three cumulative options are offered with the lantern:
- GPS: Allows to synchronize the flashes of several lanterns
- CP: Charge Port to (re)-charge the battery quickly without having to expose the lantern to sunlight. GISMAN
offers an external power supply - see complementary article
- SW: SWITCH – allows to completely turn off the lantern for a long storage

OPT Options are cumulative, in order from top to bottom.

Example: GSC-3-G-4AH-GS-CP instead of GSC-3-G-4AH-CP-GS
1.6. Charge Port, Switch and GPS options
The optional Charge Port and Switch are located below the colored base of the lantern.
The Charge Port is located to the left of the traceability label. The sealing cap must be removed before
connecting the external power supply. After charging and removing the external power supply, remember to
replace the cap.
The Switch is located at the top left of the traceability label. To access, unscrew the access cap with a flat
screwdriver.
- If the switch button is turned away from the label, it is in the OFF position (lantern is off).
- If the switch button is facing the label, it is in the ON position (lantern is on)
GPS option: The GISMAN Bluetooth® application can be used to check that a lantern is fitted with the GPS
option. It is also easy to spot the presence or absence of the GPS chip on the main PCB of the lantern, under
the transparent glass.
All Gisman lanterns equipped with the GPS option, no matter what model they are, if they are set to the same
flash character, will automatically synchronize their flashes. No user setting is required.
To synchronize a Gisman lantern with one from another brand, an offset synchronization is to be set up. To
do so, please refer to the GISMAN Bluetooth® application user manual.

1.8. Main features

The GSC-3 self-contained lantern is equipped with a powerful solar generator (4 solar modules and up to 8AH
battery) and benefits from a low consumption allowing it to be set up in environments with little sunlight
(high latitudes).

It comes standard with a Bluetooth® module for up and down connectivity, plus a feature allowing the
wireless firmware update "OTA - Over The Air" via the GISMAN Bluetooth® application, in order to benefit
from the latest features.

It also has a wide range of pre-programmed flash characters and offers the possibility to program a
personalized one.

The three options (GPS, CP and SW) are available as from the GSC-3 range and several complementary items
are offered in order to facilitate start-up and to optimize maintenance in operational conditions.
1.9. Bluetooth® connectivity
The GISMAN lanterns are all equipped with a Bluetooth® module that allows connectivity:
- Downward: programming the lantern on a smartphone or tablet via the GISMAN Bluetooth®
application
- Upward: Via the GISMAN Bluetooth® application, the lantern can send back operating information to
the GISMAN A2NGO web platform and offer optional functionalities for monitoring and
maintenance.

1.10. Technical description

USER MANUAL
SELF-CONTAINED LED LANTERN
GSC-3

The GSC-3 lantern is made of a colored injected base that indicates the color of the lantern, a transparent
injected envelope that houses the solar panels and a gasket.
The batteries are held in place by a 316L stainless steel flange.

2. STORAGE
If the lantern is to be stored for a long time, it must be kept out of its packaging and exposed to direct sunlight,
without masking or windows. Check battery voltage regularly to avoid excessive discharge.

The Switch option, switched to the OFF position, enables short-term storage without exposure to direct
sunlight.

3. FINAL SETUP
3.1. Charge the battery
If the lantern comes with the SW (switch) option, turn the switch to the ON position.
To charge the battery, expose the lantern to sunlight for several days or use the Charge Port (optional) with
the external power supply (complementary item).

Before setting up the lantern to its final location, use the GISMAN Bluetooth® application or the IR
programmer to ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged. The battery's open circuit voltage must be at
least 6.2 volts.

3.3. Identify the best location and mount the lantern

Maximum sunlight is requested to get the best results from the solar modules. Therefore, the lantern is to
be mounted in a sunny environment without any shady area that could affect the solar panels.
The lantern is mounted on the support with 4 M6 screws on a Ø150mm diameter.
GISMAN offers as a complementary item an adapter plate for mounting on a Ø200mm diameter via 3 or 4
M10 screws (see §1.6).

195 x 195 x 223.5 mm 1.6 kg (version 4Ah) ou 2.3kg (version 8Ah)

4. PROGRAM THE LANTERN

The lantern can be easily programmed using the GISMAN Bluetooth® app or the Infrared programmer.
4.1. Program using the GISMAN Bluetooth® app
See Quick Start Guide or the GISMAN Bluetooth® application user manual.
4.2. Program using IR
See Quick Start Guide or the infrared programmer's user manual.
4.3. Smart autonomy management
Via the GISMAN Bluetooth® application, the Smart Autonomy Management can be activated or deactivated.
This setting allows, when the battery is running low, to prevent the lantern from switching off. The lantern
operation is then maintained in degraded mode, with reduced light intensity. Three levels of light intensity
adjustment are thus implemented:
Voltage level Voltage Light intensity
Good Greater than 6.2V 100% of the set value
Average Between 6.0V and 6.2V 75% of the set value
Low Less than 6.0V 10% of the set value
