Issue Lack of awareness on dengue in the community

Aim To make people aware and make them know about dengue with the effective
measures and preventions to be taken.

Outcome The outcome for our project is a Nukkad Natak in our community which informs
description the people about dengue and its preventive measures. This Nukkad Natak was
focused on telling the people to choose scientifically proven ways over home
remedies while being sensitive to the different cultural perspectives around the
community.

Explanation We decided to take dengue as our topic because we observed an increase in the
and Cultural number of people affected by dengue in our community. The issue was that people
Perspectives were trying to avoid going to doctors and were relying entirely on home remedies.
Additionally, two of our team members recently suffered from dengue as well.
They come from different cultural backgrounds, hence, their insights were a strong
foundation for our further research about the diversity that is possible the
perspective towards a singular topic.

We interviewed a doctor who is a specialist in dengue in order to collect data and

upon receiving the insights from the doctor, we wrote the script for our nukkad
natak. Furthermore, we also researched on the internet about the common
remedies people use in order to cure dengue at home and the common cultural
beliefs surrounding dengue and its’ preventions. Through our research, we found
that there are many cultural perspectives that are backed by logic and science,
hence, we clearly displayed this in our outcome and tried to be careful to not hurt
individual sentiments.

We have tried to showcase different cultural perspectives in our nukkad natak.

This included referring to famous bollywood celebrities and remixing iconic
bollywood songs and music to make it relevant to the content of our Nukkad
Natak. Cultural perspective has also been shown via using the regional language
(hindi) and doing nukkad natak (a famous part of Indian Tradition). Furthermore,
talking about home remedies such as papaya leaf adds on this. Lastly, performing
a rap also added to the cultural perspective (African-American communities
originate rap).
Reflective Paper

I will reflect on my experience of working with a group of people from different

backgrounds. I will examine the challenges we faced as a team, the lessons we
learned, and the impact our work has on people. From this perspective, I hope to gain a
deeper understanding of the value of diversity and the importance of collaboration in
achieving diverse goals. During the internship, I gained a better understanding of
working with teams from different backgrounds. I also discovered a lot about my own
learning, strengths and limitations, and the differences between working in a team and
working independently.

My team and I deliberated on the various topics available for our team project and
decided to explore contemporary issues that are causing distress for ordinary people.
After considering different options, we ultimately chose to focus on the theme of
Disease and Health, which we believed would be an excellent topic for us to work on.
Then my team and I researched this topic further, and we found out that there is a rise
in dengue and many people in our schools and communities face this problem and are
still facing this problem, and we found that many people are following cultural remedies
before going to the doctor for checkup etc. We decided to spread awareness about
dengue prevention measures and also go to the doctor before following cultural
remedies. After deciding with the group and our teacher we thought of making a
presentation and poster and conducting workshops to spread awareness but we found
out that this was not a very effective way of spreading awareness because our target
age group was adults and old age people, the presentation will be boring for them so we
decided to do nukkad natak which would be a good way to raise awareness among that
age group. We made a script and practised nukkad natak first we showed it to our
friends and took feedback and then presented it on the street. We managed to gather a
good number of people while doing the natak. We were not able to wear a black kurta
which we had decided, and also we were not able to use props during the play. The
play was short and simple. We have used the Hindi language and some Bollywood
song remakes to grab their attention and add cultural perspective.

The things that went well were during our performance, we used music to convey
important messages, which we believe will help the audience remember them in the
long term. Many in the audience recorded our play and are likely to spread the word,
informing more people about the preventive measures we emphasized. We engaged
the audience and persuaded them to follow preventive measures and fight against the
disease of dengue. The use of popular figures like Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan
adds a relatable touch. We had not hurt people's feelings by saying the cultural
remedies were wrong. Instead, we said the benefits of it and said go to the doctor
before doing this.

Throughout the project, our group divided the workload among members to reduce
individual burdens. My role involved writing scripts for the nukkad natak, and
researching and writing short songs and bollywood song tunes. While creating the
script, we rejected some ideas which resulted in dissatisfaction among group members.
We utilized internet research and surveys as our primary research methods, using
reliable websites for information. The doctor we surveyed was an expert in their field.
We got some information from decreasing the mosquito rate and preventive measures,
making the survey highly effective. Time management proved to be a significant
challenge throughout the process. We faced difficulties submitting tasks on multiple
occasions due to other coursework, attending classes, and completing assignments.
We had multiple ideas for nukkad natak script which was an issue because of it there
were conflicts in the group.

We could have added for cultural perspective and we could have used some props so
that people could have a better understanding. we could improve the script and make it
more lengthy and might have done at crowded areas which could have raised more
awareness.

During the course of my journey, I gained a wealth of knowledge on dengue fever,

particularly that there are no definitive cures for it, and that the best way to combat it is
through preventative measures such as immunity strengthening. I gained this
knowledge through extensive research on the topic, which also helped me develop skills
in problem-solving and collaboration with my team members. Additionally, this
experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of a pressing medical crisis that
is on the rise. I also developed the important skill of presenting ideas in a creative and
sensitive manner that minimizes the risk of misconceptions and misunderstandings.
Through this project our group did something beneficial to the people in our society and
people around. This was a great opportunity to learn many things new and help society.

Working in a team was a good experience. There were diverse perspectives and
helping each other to learn a new skill. responsibilities and work was shared among the
team members, we were in a group so we were tackling problems faster though there
were conflicts but we managed to come to one idea and we were helping each other in
their work. We learnt Research skills, Communication skills, Collaboration skills,
Analyzing skills, Evaluation skills and Reflection skills.
