DEFINITION:
Individualized Education Program
also known as (IEP) is a legal
contract between the school and the
parents that discusses what services
the child will recieve. The (IDEA) act
is the individuals with disabilities
education act. This requires an
educational team to have drawn up
a IEP for each child. The IEP must
have the students academic
achievements, goals for the
students, services, and different
criteria and instructions in
determining how to make this
student the most successful.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The parent should expect to meet
annually to discuss the child’s progress
with the IEP. This may be very difficult
for some parents depending on how
their child is doing but to not give up
and if there are any changes the parents
or team wants that it will happen and
discuss any changes for the following
year. We want what is best for your
child!
HOW DOES IT WORK??
Once it is determined that the child
needs a IEP, a team of professionals sit
down and discuss what exactly would
help the child and how. The first
meeting begins with what is included,
the placement of the child, and then the
team takes over to put everything
together and papers signed by the
parents. After this process is completed
the team will figure out when it begins
and then hold check up meetings as the
year continues to see how the child is
doing.
The Team
The parents and the teacher are most
responsible of the student when on a IEP
plan. Their goal is to help the child the
best that they can and get their
resources and materials for them. There
is also a special education teacher along
with a representative and translator is
needed for the student. They want your
child to be the most successful as
possible if that means modifications
and/or accomodations for the student.
