SHORT INTEREST
Short interest is the total number of shares of a
security that have been sold short by customers and
securities firms

NYSE short interest data is published twice a month:

approximately 5 business days after the 1st and 15th of each
month.

Short interest ratio is obtained by dividing short

interest by the stock's average daily trading volume

It indicates how many days it would take for short

sellers to purchase shares required for already
contracted sales (called 'covering the short position')
if the stock price increases against expectations of
decline
