a. Static routes are most often used to connect to a specific network or to provide a
Gateway of Last Resort for a stub network. They can also be used to:
b. Reduce the number of routes advertised by summarizing several contiguous networks as
one static route
c. Create a backup route in case a primary route link fails

CONFIGURE IP STATIC ROUTING USING CISCKO PACKET TRACER
Static routes, which define explicit paths between two routers, cannot be
automatically updated; you must manually reconfigure static routes when network
changes occur. Static routes use less bandwidth than dynamic routes. No CPU cycles
are used to calculate and analyze routing updates.
You can supplement dynamic routes with static routes where appropriate. You can
redistribute static routes into dynamic routing algorithms but you cannot redistribute
routing information calculated by dynamic routing algorithms into the static routing
table.
You should use static routes in environments where network traffic is predictable
and where the network design is simple. You should not use static routes in large,
constantly changing networks because static routes cannot react to network changes.
Most networks use dynamic routes to communicate between routers but may have
one or two static routes configured for special cases. Static routes are also useful for
specifying a gateway of last resort.
• Working:-
Static routers generally work by connecting PC, Routers, etc. to send data
from one workstation to another. Here, we connect 4 PC’s, Routers, Switches
together and we create a pathway to send and receive data or message. Each
PC and Router is set by customized configured IP address and the data of
pathway so that one data can be passed from one workstation to another.
Here, we provide the address not only to PC’s but also routers so that data
can be sent from one workstation to another but in non-sequential form. We
can also send data from one router to one PC through the created pathway. In
this way, we can easily send information or data directly from one
workstation to another without the sequential concerns.

• Advantages:
Disadvantages:
1. In static routing, since the administrator adds and manages all routes, the administrator
must have in-depth knowledge of the internetwork.
2. To add all routes correctly, the administrator has to learn how each router is connected to
the network.
3. The process of adding each route on each router is tedious.
4. If the administrator changes the location of a router in the network, the administrator has
to update routing information on all routers manually
Applications:-
1. It is usually used when there are no other routes, to specify a router exit point, which is
called a default route.
2. It generally acts as an alternative to dynamic routing to provide the failsafe backup if
the dynamic routes are not accessible.
3. It primarily functions to transport routing data across different routing protocols, which
is called routing redistribution.
4. It can be used forsmall networks with only routers such as small offices or when
security is a concern, which is more effective.
Conclusion:-
This article sheds light on the question "What is static routing" by providing an overall
explanation of its concept, uses, advantages as well and differences between dynamic routing.
As it has been illustrated above, static routing has its advantages in small and simple
networks, while dynamic routing is more suitable for large and complex networks. Hope this
article will give you some inspiration on understanding and applying static routing
