• Writing Task 2: Essay Writing. 40 mins should be spent here.

Essay can be of 4 types. For instance—
a. Agree disagree
b. Discuss both views
c. Advantage disadvantage
d. Problem solution
Question style:
• Agree/disagree:
People living in 21st century are enjoying better quality of life
compared to people who lived in the previous centuries. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?
• Discuss both views:
Some people think that environmental problems should be solved on
a global scale while others believe it is better to deal with them
nationally. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
• Advantage/ disadvantage:
• Many elderly people are no longer looked after by their families but
are put in care homes or nursing homes. What are the advantages
and disadvantages of this trend?
• Problem/ solution:
Stress related illness are becoming increasingly common. What do you
think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from
your knowledge and experience. Write at least 250 words.
Paraphrasing
• Education is the single most important factor in the development of
the country.

• There are 3 tips for paraphrasing.

1. Changing words:
• Schooling is the only significant element in the advancement of a
nation.
2. Changing sentence structure:
The most essential element of a nation’s development is education.
3. Some extra factors/extra situation related words:
Although many people think that the economy is the most important
factor in nation building but I believe, education is the crucial element
in this situation.
Examples:
• Question:
Some people prefer to shop for food in supermarkets but other people
prefer to do their food shopping online. Discuss both views and then
give your opinion.

Paraphrasing: While several shoppers do their food shopping online,

many still love to purchase their food in the traditional way by visiting
supermarket.
Questions for paraphrasing practice:
1. University students are increasingly studying abroad as part of
their studies. Do the advantage of studying abroad outweigh the
disadvantages?
2. Some people think that it is more beneficial to play team sports
where other people believe it is more beneficial to play individual
sports. Discuss both views and then give your opinion.
