Standard:2.MD.8 Solve problems with money.

a. Identify nickels and quarters by name and value.

b. Find the value of a collection of quarters, dimes, nickels , and pennies.

c. Solve words problems by adding and subtracting within 100, dollars with dollars and

cents with cents.

Objective: Students will be able to solve word problems through answering eight out of ten

questions correct on their test.

Description:

The students have previously been learning about time and money. Before the summative

assessment is given to the students the teacher will review with the students which each coin

represents and how much the value of each is. Then the teacher will make sure that the students

understand the representation of the coins before giving the summative assessment. The

assessment will consist of ten questions and in order for the students to be considered as

understanding the concept of the value of money through addition and subtraction through word

problems the students have to get eight correct.

Rationale:

The rationale for this lesson and this assessment is due to the fact that the students have

been exposed to this information for a long period. The students should be able to understand the

values of each dollar and coin that is represented through pictures and manipulatives. The

students have been exposed to word problems dealing with money and the students have been
allowed to use the manipulative coins and dollar bills in order to help them understand the value

of coins and the difference in money.

Differentiation:

As a teacher the only way that one would differentiate this summative assessment is by

allowing the student to listen to it on their chromebook to help them understand each question.

Another way in which one could differentiate this assessment is allowing the teacher to take the

four students (two on IEPs and two on a 504) and due small group testing since that is stated in

their documents to allow them to complete their assessments with minimal distractions and can

ask the teacher questions if they do not understand certain parts of the test.
