Generally, mobile computing system involves mobile devices, Such as Laptops, personal computer,
tablet, and smartphones. Wireless network connection based on WIFI or cellular wireless
technology, such 5G. Mobile computing is very useful today’s daily life it is very significant it is use
for communication, transaction, etc. can store data locally, and access to that data doesn’t require a
network connection. Many mobile computing devices such as laptops, tablet, smartphones. these
include devices for medical, surveillance, security, and telemetry and control use. Many uses of
gadgets like in business create a newly machine.
 Mobile infrastructure- refers to the technical pieces that allow devices to communicate.
Mobile infrastructure includes the wireless networks, wireless protocols and data formats.
 Mobile hardware- the physical mobile device and supporting hardware that users interact
with make up the mobile hardware.
 Mobile software- refers to the applications that run on mobile devices, including mobile
operation systems (OSes) and user-facing applications, such as mobile browsers and e-
commerce applications.

History and evolution of mobile computing

Portable Computers – is a computer that is designed in a way that you can move it from one
place to another. It includes a display and a keyboard. Generally, portable computers are
microcomputers. Compaq portable and Contemporary portable computer with 3 LCD
screens.
Personal Digital Assistant/Enterprise Digital Assistant (PDA or EDA) – PDA known as
palmtop computer. Sometimes, it is also called Enterprise Digital Assistant (EDA). A
personal digital assistant (PDA) is a mobile device used to function as a personal
information manager or a personal data assistant. Personal digital assistant was evolved
from personal desktop assistant a software term for an application that prompts or prods
the user of a computer with suggestions or provides a quick reference to contacts and other
lists. Apple newton and UPOP PDA were the early examples of personal digital assistant.
An ultra- mobile PC was a small form factor version of a pen computer. It was a class of
laptops whose specifications were launched by Microsoft and intel in 2006.
Laptop – laptop is a small, portable personal computer (PC) built in a foldable device. The
folding structure of a laptop is called a clamshell form factor. The flip or clamshell is a form
factor of a mobile phone or other devices that include two or more folded sections via a
hinge. A laptop typically has a thin alphanumerical LCD or LED computer screen mounted
on the inside of the clamshell’s upper lid and an alphanumerical keyboard inside of the
lower lid.
Smartphone – is a mobile device that combines cellular and mobile computing functions
into one unit. The smartphones are invented to provide more advanced computing
capability and connectivity than basic feature phones.

Future of mobile computing is bright set to take major business sectors by storm. Large screen
smartphones, iPads, tablets. Have made substantial inroads into the computing spaces, which once
used to be held by laptop and full-sized desktop computers. Future computers promise to be even
faster than today’s computers and smaller than a deck of cards. Perhaps they will become the size
of coins and offer “smart” or artificial intelligence features like expert intelligence, neural network
pattern recognition features, or natural language capabilities.
o Hardware – lighter, smaller, energy, User interface

o High bandwidth facility

o Shift industrial paradigm from piecewise solutions to end – to – end information systems

o Improved radio technology & antennas – Dynamic spectrum allocation

o Core network convergence – IP- based, quality of service, mobile IP

o AD-hoc technology – Spontaneous communication, power saving, redundancy

o Simple & open service platform – Intelligence at the edge, not in the network

More service providers, not network operator only

Features of Mobile Computing

The first semblance of mobile computing for old-timers was laptop due to its little bit of mobility
across desks and offices though connected by wire. The mobile evolution continued with the
invention of slimmer and easily portable end-user compute devices like a walkie-talkie, pager, Data
assistants, tablet computers like iPad/Tablet, and finally merging of Phone and computers as
smartphones. The size should be as possible to carry it easily where ever one goes, and the weight
should be as minimum as possible. it should have sufficient processing power to churn out numbers
fast. Should support all communication protocols. it should support all networks and should work
anywhere in the globe without any network glitch. Display should be very clear and responsive to
environmental changes battery should have a long life as much as possible it should support Near
field communicator (NFC) protocol to emit signals to nearby devices for completing payment
transactions as a replacement to Debit/Credit cards. It should have sufficient storage space.

Internet access, Global Position System (GPS). Emergency services, entertainment services,
educational services. How mobile computing is used in daily life? Mobile computing and its
applications are general term for a group of devices that can access wireless network infrastructure
anytime and from any location to access transmitted data like voice, video, and text. These devices
also support mobile communication and include mobile hardware. Our quality of life has increased
as a result of these. If you have an accident, you can call the 911 the emergency provider or
emergency line to notify that you are in danger to easily track your exact location then the
ambulance arrived in the location where you in (The GPS is always on). Ambulance with a high-
quality wireless connection can be hired to play a crucial role in the medical field. With its support,
important information about injured people can be transported. The helpful action is to get ready
for a certain accident. In business laptop is commonly used to create a power point, etc. presenting
a presentation in-front of their clients with this computing system while accessing the most recent
market news. it is very useful in everyday used regarding in communication, business, and other
transaction.
