Welcome to YISS
About Yonsei
Being the oldest private university in Korea, Yonsei University was
first established in 1885 by Christian missionaries. Our mission is
to educate leaders who will contribute to humanity in the spirit of
“truth and freedom.” The 310,000 Yonsei alumni who take this calling
to heart can be found manifesting this proud spirit from leadership
positions around the world.
Yonsei’s main campus is ensconced in a spacious, picturesque and
natural setting located minutes away from the economic, political,
and cultural centers of Seoul’s metropolitan downtown. Yonsei
has 6,235 eminent faculty members who are conducting cutting-edge research across all academic
disciplines. There are 20 graduate schools, 23 colleges and 155 subsidiary institutions hosting a selective
pool of students from around the world.

Yonsei International Summer School

The Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) opened its doors in 1985 and since then, has become an
integral part of campus life based on a unique blend of Korean and global cultures. YISS continues to grow
and evolve, accommodating the needs of a rapidly changing student body and meeting the challenges of a
fast-paced global society.
The 2023 program offers a selection of courses catered to growing interest in the arts, culture, and
humanities while also offering cutting-edge classes in management and economics, global issues, history
and social sciences, and science and technology.
This summer, we invite you to experience the legendary “Yonsei Spirit” and to join us for an unforgettable
summer in the heart of Seoul. You will make life-long friends, build new networks, expand and deepen
your academic and cultural horizons, and experience life in one of Asia’s coolest, yet largely undiscovered
metropolises of 10 million people.

Yonsei University has a strict attendance policy: Missing 1/3 or more of total classes will give F grade

Auditing Grading Policy
YISS does not allow students to audit lectures. Final grade assessment is based on attendance, class participation, assignments and examinations.

Grades are issued on an “A+, A0 and A-“ to “F” scale and will be recorded permanently. Yonsei Summer
Course Code Internship will be graded either Pass or Non-pass.
All courses will be graded on an absolute evaluation basis.
The first three alphabets show which department the course is offered from. Among the four numbers

Yonsei University Libraryhas served as the center for Yonsei University’s scholarship, offering quality
information services to meet the learning, teaching, and research needs of Yonsei community members
by acquiring, delivering, and preserving a rich array of academic resources. Yonsei University Library holds
about 2.2 million volumes and provides access to approximately 17,000 print journals, 71,500 e-journals,
476,000 e-books, and 200 academic databases. The distinctive and unique rare book collection, which
includes important Korean classics valued as national treasures, number over 100,000.
In 2008, with the opening of the Yonsei-Samsung Library equipped with advanced IT infrastructure,
capacious research and learning spaces, cultural facilities, and exhibition space, the Library complex

became Korea's largest library in the size of 577,000 square feet with about 5,300 seating space for library
users.
Yonsei University Library features an open stack which provides quick and easy access to its users, and
uses Dewey Decimal Classification System. In 2013, the University opened the Underwood Memorial
Library at the International Campus to fully support its residential college program. With its cutting-
edge facilities, the library provides collections and services idealized for the RC educations. In 2015,
Yonsei University Library launched a smart academic information system which enhanced usability and
accessibility in mobile environment. In 2017, the library opened a creativity space “Y-Valley” on the 1st
