LAB 8-NITK SOLAR PANELS ANALYSIS

GAGAN C JAIN
201EE220

There are a total of 11 sets of Solar panel systems supplying power to the
grid of NITK located at various blocks inside the campus
List of PV panels located at different blocks namely, 4th block, EE dept, EC
dept, etc.

While NITK receives its power supply from MESCOM, solar panels are
installed to reduce the dependency on the grid power supply and it is also
cheaper compared to the grid supply, and it is also a green form of energy
which reduces the Carbon footprint drastically.

Cost of a unit of electricity received from:

MESCOM GRID- 9 Rs
Solar Panel- 6 Rs

The panels installed in NITK are not performing to their maximum efficiency
due to the accumulation of dust on panels and lack of maintenance.

Analysis of Mining Block PV panels:

On the date - 8 feb 2024

Max power-62 kWp

It starts generating power from 8:30 AM till 5 PM

Production-259kWh
Co2 avoided-212 Kg of carbon footprint reduced
Revenue generated- 1445 Rs cost was saved.

Red line represents the irradiance

Dotted line- Quoted production during installation
Blue graph- actual power production

As seen from graph, actual production is way lesser that quoted production,
this is due to dust formation and lack of maintenance.
We can see few anomalies in the irradiance graph, i.e the graph is not
uniform, this occurs due to the shading phenomenon, when clouds block
the sunlight, such anomalies can be seen in power production.
