Heeresgruppe Nordukraine

1. Cirriculum Vitae - CV (Lebenslauf):

Army Group Northern Ukraine (Heeresgruppe Nordukraine) was formed on April 4, 1944 by
renaming Army Group South (Süd).
The army group included the 1st Panzer Army, the 4th Panzer Army and the 1st Hungarian Army.
The 1st Panzer Army was trapped in the Kamenets-Podolski pocket and, with most of the German
troops, escaped the Soviet encirclement to the northwest using a moving pocket.
Between July 13 and August 29, 1944, Army Group Northern Ukraine was pushed out of western
Ukraine and the southeastern areas of Poland in heavy fighting.
Eight German divisions were destroyed in the Brody pocket and 32 German divisions were badly
damaged. At the end of the Russian offensive, the Red Army had been able to capture a large
bridgehead over the Vistula near Sandomierz. On September 23, 1944, the staff was renamed
Army Group (Heeresgruppe) A.
