1. List at least three nursing roles or more based on your professional nursing experience.

ANSWER:
a. Nurse Advocate- as a nurse for almost a decade I encountered several situations as
being the patients’ voice in the provision of quality care and promoting safety as well as
preserving their rights and dignity. In addition, this also encompasses building interpersonal
relationships, and educating patients about their conditions and the care they are receiving.
Moreover, I provide support and education to my patients so they can make their own
decisions about their health condition.
b. Leader- part of my job as a nurse is to act as a leader in certain situations that needs
leadership skills to realized our objective in promoting high quality health care. As a leader I
influence others to work together and I have realized that effective leadership requiring an
understanding of the needs and goals that motivate people
c. Caregiver- for me this is the basic role being a nurse to provide hands-on care to my
patients in a variety of clinical setting. This includes physical needs, which can range from
total care to helping a patient with illness prevention. As a nurse I always maintain patient’s
dignity while providing knowledgeable, skilled care.

2. How would you relate those roles in the national nursing competency standards?
ANSWER:
The aim of national nursing competency standards is to promote high quality nursing care and to
create a positive patient culture safety environment to the patients by ensuring that we nurses
are able to provide safe and effective care to our patients and promotes engagement and active
participation in the safety culture of the organization. That is why the nursing roles I mentioned
above are important components to achieve these goals by providing the best quality care to our
patients by preserving their dignity, prioritizing their needs and by delivering a holistic care that
promote their well-being, through leadership, collaboration among other members of
healthcare team.

3. What would be the relevance/significance of this course in knowing and understanding the
national nursing competency standard?
ANSWER:
This course is very crucial in knowing and understanding the national nursing competency
standard for the reason that curriculum development is one of the most important roles of the
nurse educator by developing and maintaining a nursing curriculum that is contemporary and
effectively prepares the nursing student to achieve the program’s end-of-program student
learning outcomes essential to be a competent nurse in the future.
