It can be observed from this graph that with decreasing in time, the absorbance is also
decreasing. However, it has been noted that there is an extraneous variable which shapes the line
differently to what the theory suggests. This may be due to a random error or a systematic error
that caused the difference in results.

The rate constant from the equation 𝑦 =𝑚𝑥+ 𝑐 , K is 0.0262.

Methanol is used as a solvent rather than water as the organic material is more soluble in
methanol. In the water the cis isomer would dissolve slower than compared to the methanol
solvent.

A reason that the cis isomer was prepare at 2 x 10-3M was because at approximately that
concentration the reaction would be able to reverse itself and so that the cis isomer as
equilibrium can reverse itself back its trans form.
