Reflection on City Debates-2024: Disrupted Urbanisms

Insurgent Bureaucrats:
This talk reflects on crises and bureaucrats, considering certain political events and linking to power
structures. It examined the election of Trump as a political crisis that led to protests and to failed
mobilization of people as bases and engines of power structures. Recent events, particularly George
Floyd’s death, labelled bureaucratic institutions -specifically police departments- as failed initiatives
despite the intensive allocated resources for them. This failure is prevalent at least in certain aspects
relevant to the talk and to other speakers’ presentations.
Positive Disruptions:
Bureaucratic support is important in cases where people mobilize for a common goal, at least in the case
of Colombia. Caregiving services for and by women
However two things are important to consider: such policy is promising, but not replicate-able, as it
different by the city; such policy needs Bureaucratic support, and according to the talks that part is most
complex as good election does not necessarily entail good policy.
