Tanzania is a union of two countries namely, Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Tanganyika got its
independence from the British in 1961. While Zanzibar freed itself through a revolution in
1964; and in the same year, the two countries united to form the United Republic of
Tanzania. Since the union, Tanzania has been governed by six regimes or governments
under the authority of a president. Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere as many call him,
