ISIOLO LAND ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Background

Isiolo County has numerous land related conflicts. These conflicts have hindered economic
growth and prosperity of the county. Traditional channels of conflict resolution have bore little
success. The nature of the conflicts is also a challenge to the judicial systems. The County Land
department established alternative mechanisms with a committee that makes series of sittings to
listen and try resolve them.

Legal Framework

Article 67 (2) provides of the National Land Commission Act (2012) mandate the commission to
initiate and undertake alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The county Government being
the bearer of public land is interested to ensure that land utility is maximized and
