5G Device Ecosystem

July 2022
Executive Summary

The number of announced 5G devices rose by 3.8% in June 2022 to reach a total of 1,454 devices. Of these, 1,105 are understood to be
commercially available, representing 75.9% of all announced 5G devices. This is an increase of 28.9% in the number of commercial 5G devices
since the end of December 2021 (see Figure 1).

By the end of June 2022, GSA had identified:

• 24 announced form factors • 87 industrial or enterprise routers, gateways or modems

• 193 manufacturers with announced available or forthcoming 5G • 57 battery-operated hot spots

• 36 tablets
• 1,454 announced devices, including regional variants, but
• 28 laptops or notebooks
excluding operator-branded devices that are essentially rebadged
versions of other phones. Of these, at least 1,105 are understood • 11 in-vehicle routers, modems or hot spots
to be commercially available:
• Eight USB terminals, dongles or modems
• 772 phones (up 37 from May 2022), at least 722 of which are
• 58 other devices, including drones, head-mounted displays,
now commercially available (up 32 in a month)
robots, TVs, cameras, femtocells/small cells, repeaters, vehicle
• 218 fixed wireless access customer-premises equipment (CPE) on-board units, a snap-on dongle/adapter, a switch, a vending

Not all devices are available immediately and specification details remain limited for some. We expect devices to continue to become more
widely available and for more information about announced devices to emerge as they reach the market.

Based on manufacturers’ previous statements and recent rates of device release, we might expect to see the number of commercial devices
approach the 1,400 mark by the end of the third quarter of 2022.

GSA will continue to track and report on 5G device launches during the coming year. Its GAMBoD database contains important details about
device form factors, features and support for spectrum bands. Summary statistics are released in this regular monthly publication.
