Automotive Electronics - Course Content

Introduction:

Automotive Electronics training program will provide a comprehensive understanding of the


functional, physical, and logical architecture of automotive electronics. The course content will
cover different types of sensors used in vehicles, Electronic Control Unit (ECU) architecture, In-
Vehicle Networking, Communication Matrix, and ECU Diagnostics. The module will also include
a detailed study of CAN communication, ECU flashing, and firmware over-the-air (FOTA)
updates.

Course Content:

1. Functional Architecture:

The course will begin with an introduction to the functional architecture of automotive
electronics. The students will learn about the various functions of automotive electronics and
their relationship with other systems in a vehicle.

2. Physical Architecture:

The course will cover the physical architecture of automotive electronics. The students will learn
about the different components of automotive electronics and their physical arrangement in a
vehicle.

3. Logical Architecture:

The students will learn about the logical architecture of automotive electronics. They will learn
about the software and hardware components of automotive electronics and their logical
arrangement in a vehicle.

4. Engine Sensors:

The course will cover the different types of sensors used in engine management systems, such
as temperature sensors, oxygen sensors, and mass airflow sensors.

5. ABS/ESP Sensors:

The course will cover the different types of sensors used in the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), such as wheel speed sensors, yaw sensors, and steering
angle sensors.

6. Airbag & SRS Sensors:

The course will cover the different types of sensors used in the Airbag and Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS), such as accelerometer sensors, pressure sensors, and seat belt sensors.

7. Parking Sensors:

The course will cover the different types of sensors used in parking systems, such as ultrasonic
sensors, radar sensors, and camera sensors.

8. Door Latches:

The course will cover the different types of sensors used in door latches, such as door ajar
sensors, lock sensors, and handle sensors.

9. Window and Wiper Motors:

The course will cover the different types of motors used in window and wiper systems, such as
DC motors, stepper motors, and brushless motors.

10. Windshield Wiper Motors:

The course will cover the different types of motors used in windshield wiper systems, such as
permanent magnet motors, induction motors, and servo motors.

11. ECU Architecture:

The course will cover the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) architecture used in automotive
electronics. The students will learn about the different types of ECUs used in a vehicle, such as
the Engine Management System (EMS), ABS/ESP ECU, Instrument Cluster, Body Control Module
(BCM), and Infotainment System.

12. Communication Matrix:

The course will cover the communication matrix used in automotive electronics. The students
will learn about the different ECUs in a vehicle and their connections, the signals and messages
from ECUs, and the layout of signal message priorities.

13. CAN Communication:

The course will cover the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication used in automotive
electronics. The students will learn about the CAN 2.0B protocol, CAN FD, CAN controller, CAN
transceivers, and CAN BUS physical connections.

14. E&E Architecture of Volvo Actuators:

The course will cover the Electrical and Electronic (E&E) architecture of Volvo Actuators. The
students will learn about the different components used in Volvo Actuators, such as the Body
Electrical Module (BEM), Engine Control Module (ECM), and Transmission Control Module
(TCM).

15. In-Vehicle Networking:

The course will cover the In-Vehicle Networking used in automotive electronics. The students
will learn about the ECU connections in a vehicle, high-speed/low-speed buses, Gateway ECU,
and distributed functions in various ECUs.

16. ECU Diagnostics:

The course will cover the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) diagnostics used in automotive
electronics. The students will learn about the different standards used in ECU diagnostics, such
as the Keyword Protocol 2000 (KWP2k) standards, KWP2k over CAN, and Unified Diagnostic
Services (UDS).

17. ECU Flashing:

The course will cover the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) flashing used in automotive electronics.
The students will learn about the different types of flashing algorithms, such as the Hex and

Motorola files. They will also learn about the Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update process used
in automotive electronics.

Expected Training Outcome

1. Understanding of electronic systems and components: Trainees will gain a


comprehensive understanding of the electronic systems and components that are
integrated into vehicles, including sensors, ECUs, and infotainment systems.
2. Knowledge of programming languages and tools: Trainees will learn how to use
programming languages and tools commonly used in the field of vehicle embedded
electronics, such as C/C++, MATLAB, and Simulink.

knowledge needed to design and develop electronic systems for vehicles, including
testing and validation.
4. Understanding of safety and performance standards: Trainees will learn about the
safety and performance standards that govern vehicle electronic systems and
components, and how to ensure that these standards are met.
5. Hands-on experience: Many training programs offer hands-on experience working with
actual electronic systems and components, allowing trainees to apply their knowledge
in a practical setting.

Recruitment and Training:

Once the candidates are shortlisted, they will undergo an intensive training program that
will last for 8 to 12 weeks. The training program will cover various aspects of vehicle
embedded electronics, including electronic systems and components, programming
languages and tools, safety and performance standards, and hands-on experience working
with actual electronic systems and components.

During the training program, the candidates will be assessed on their knowledge and skills,
and they will receive feedback and support to help them improve their performance. After

the training program, the candidates will be ready to be deployed to the onsite client
location.

Deployment:

Once the training is completed, Harita will onboard the 2023/2024 passing out candidates
and deploy them to the onsite client location. The deployment process will involve
coordinating with the client and ensuring that the candidates are properly integrated into
their teams and roles.

Harita will provide ongoing support and guidance to the candidates, including performance
evaluations, feedback, and training as needed. This will ensure that the candidates are able
to perform their roles effectively and contribute to the success of the client's projects.

Interview Procedure:

1. Online Aptitude Test:


• Test Duration: 1 hour
• Number of Questions: 60
• Type of Questions: Objective-type questions

Topics Covered:

• Basic Electrical and Electronics: This section will cover topics like basic
electronic components, circuits, and devices, electrical and electronic
measurements, and basic digital electronics.
• Logical Reasoning: This section will evaluate the candidate's ability to reason
and think logically. It may include questions related to patterns, sequences,
analogies, and deductive reasoning.
• Verbal Ability: This section will test the candidate's language skills, including
reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary.

• Quantitative Ability: This section will evaluate the candidate's mathematical


skills, including numerical reasoning, data interpretation, and basic
arithmetic.

Passing Score: Candidates need to score 30 and above to pass the aptitude test.

Additional Instructions:

• Candidates are allowed to use calculators if required.


• Candidates are advised to read the instructions and questions carefully
before attempting the test.
• The test will be conducted online using the Harita Integrated Training portal
“Harita Acharya”.
• The aptitude test will help evaluate the candidates' basic electrical and
electronics capabilities and general aptitudes like logical reasoning, problem-
solving, and verbal and quantitative ability. It will provide a fair and objective
assessment of the candidates' skills and knowledge and help identify suitable
candidates for further evaluation in the recruitment process.

2. Group Discussion: The second step will be a group discussion, where the candidates
will be divided into groups and given a topic to discuss. This will help assess their
communication skills, leadership abilities, and teamwork capabilities.
3. Face-to-Face Interview: The third step will be a face-to-face interview with the
shortlisted candidates. The interview will focus on evaluating their technical
knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills.

The salary offered is competitive and will be based on the candidate's skills and experience. The
letter of intent will provide the selected candidates with clarity on the job offer and help them
