PROJECT DETAILS

Secondary Power Distribution System (COLLINS Aerospace System, Germany)

Jun '10 – till date

This project is concerned to design of Solid State Power Modules (SPMs) that are programmable
line replaceable modules (LRMs), maintenance free, environmentally and EMI protected for
aircraft applications. They combine multiple Solid state Power Controllers for driving high power
DC and AC applications together with discrete and analog I/O's for remote data concentration.

As an Electronic Design Engineer, I am responsible to support the design team in following

areas,

• Worst case analysis on analog and digital circuit of the LRUs

• Stress / Power analysis on all the electronic components
• Stability analysis on Power supplies
• Preparing design documents and test report
• Developing Acceptance Test Plan and testing the LRUs
• Witnessing the EMI/EMC, HALT, environmental testing
• Interaction and coordinating with the cross-functional teams in improving and resolving
outcoming design issues
• HSIT testing

Cockpit Door Surveillance system (For Airbus and Boeing): Aug '08 – Apr ’10

This project is concerned to a re-design of Video surveillance system that processes the images
captured on NTSC cameras and displays it on an LCD. It allows the Flight deck crew to survey a
person requesting entrance to the cockpit.

As a Technical Lead for this project, I was responsible for

• Requirement analysis of the system modules

• Redesign of Main Control Unit using FPGA with video decoders and encoder interface to
process the NTSC signal provided from cameras.
• Selection of electronic components
• schematic entry and layout routing of various boards
• Design analysis and functional validation of different modules
• Worst case analysis on different modules of the controller
• Stress / Power analysis on all the electronic components in controller.
• FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) on all the electronic components in controller.
• Guide development teams by understanding and following established engineering
processes
• Provide system level safety analysis of integrated avionics systems.
• Lead and participate in product development reviews.
• Develop and execute hardware test plans for functional, certification, HIRF (High intensity
radiated field) and Lightning.
Auxiliary Power Unit Electronic Controller (Deputed at: Hamilton Sundstrand, USA):

Mar '04 to Aug '08

This project is concerned to a design of full authority digital electronic control unit that monitors
and diagnoses all the phases of Auxilliary Power Unit operation through fuel metering unit,
valves, actuators and sensors. This unit transmits fault/maintenance information to the aircraft
systems

As a Team Member, I was responsible for

• Design avionics electronic circuits that is controlled by a Freescale 32 bit microprocessor.

• Schematic entry of electronic circuits in Cadence tool
• Support the Layout team in placing and routing the design modules
• Develop and execute hardware test plans for functional, certification, HIRF (High intensity
radiated field) and Lightning.

Apart from the major projects mentioned above, I also got an opportunity in the Test Equipment
Design and Electrical switch gear control cabinet design to control special purpose machines in
Automation industries using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's).

I was the key person for the

• Design and Development of switchgears in the Electrical control cabinet
• I was involved in preparation of Requirements Specifications Document.
• Detailed design, coding of PLC as per customers requirement and unit testing of the
electrical system interface.
• Apart from my own module, I was actively involved in reviewing, and assisting the other
team members, for the subsystems of other projects, and have been involved from the
start of the project.

ACADEMIC PROJECT:

“PLC BASED WEIGHING AND MIXING SYSTEM”

The project is concerned with automating the process of weighing the ingredients and
mixing them in right proportion. The prototype model consists of two containers with
motor driven outlets. The mixer unit collects the ingredients from the two containers in a
proportion as decided by the user. A load cell measures the weight of each ingredient and
provides the weight information to PLC. This information along with other inputs
information is fed to the PLC. A control loop is then implemented in the PLC. Thus
reducing human intervention and thereby preventing errors and hazards.
This project is useful in chemical industries, confectionaries etc.
This project was adjudged as the “Best of the Best projects” for the year 1999-2000.
HARDWARE DESIGN and VERIFICATION TOOLS:

Cadence tools (Schematic entry)

Cadence and LTspice tools (circuit simulation and analysis tools),
Allegro tool for PCB Layout
IspVM tool for PLD firmware program,
FlashPro for FPGA firmware program,
MAXPLUS II for designing programmable logic
