Note: Whenever possible avoid going to the maximum recoat time. Application of
the next layer should be carried out as soon as possible to prevent contamination
from people walking over the surface dust and dew etc.

4.4 Full Cure Time (Days)

10C 20C 30C
12 days 7 days 5 days
Note: Do not expose the surface to water or cleaning solutions until fully cured.

4.5 Temperature and Humidity Limitations

Maximum temperature of the mixed materials and substrate is to be 35C at the
time of application.
Minimum temperature of the mixed materials and substrate is to be 10C at the time
of application.
Do not apply if the temperature is within 3% of the dew point or 5C of the dew
point and dropping.
Maximum ambient relative humidity of 85%.

5.0 Surface Preparation

The substrate must be structurally sound. Loose or unsound concrete should be
removed and made good. Surfaces must be entirely free of oil, grease, paint,
corrosion deposits, dust, laitance or other surface deposits. The surface should be
prepared by captive blasting to produce a lightly exposed aggregate surface i.e. a

Method Statement X-Tech AntiStatic SLE v3 January 2014 Page 2 of 5

ICRI CSP 4 or 5 surface profile. Any bug holes (blow holes) should be filled with
X-Shield BugFill or X-Tech Primer Filler (when using X-Prime MT100 apply BugFill or
Primer Filler after priming). If substrate is not level or is uneven, level using X-Tech
LevelCem HD.

6.0 Moisture Testing

The concrete slab should be tested for moisture with the Rapid RH system following
the procedure in ASTM F2170. If the humidity reading is greater than 80% then
conduct moisture vapor emission rate (MVER) testing using the procedure in ASTM
F1869. (Both test kits are available for purchase from X-Calibur). If the MVER is
under 3lbs/1000ft2/24h use X-Prime SF. If the MVER is 3 to 5 lbs/1000ft2/24h use a
single coat X-Prime MT100 at 165 microns wft. If the MVER is 5 to 12 lbs/1000ft2/24h
use two coats of X-Prime MT100 at 200 microns wft per coat. Contact X-Calibur for
guidance when MVER is greater than 12 lbs/1000ft2/24h.

7.0 Priming
The base and hardener have to mixed using a slow speed drill and approved mixing
paddle until homogenous. The mixed primer should then be applied to the prepared
substrate with a stiff brush or roller. Do not over apply or allow puddles of primer to
form. If the primer is absorbed into the surface easily, it will be necessary to apply
a second coat once the initial coat is tack-free.

8.0 Grounding

8.1 Connection to Ground

Use 20mm wide x 250mm long copper strips at least 0.7mm thick. The strips should
be clean and bright and bent so 150mm is adhered to the floor and 100mm rises
vertically up the wall to be connect to a tested ground point. Spacing of the ground
strip will be decided in conjunction with the ESD team but typically would be one
every 20m around the floor perimeter. Self adhesive copper tape with conductive
adhesive is recommended for ease of use or copper strips can be installed. While
the primer is still tacky bond the underside of the copper strip to the top surface of
the slab. Do not coat the copper strip with primer. Install the floor over the strips as
detailed below. After installing the Base Coat test the resistance to ground to
ensure a good connection has been made.

8.2 Bridging movement joints where continuous connection is required

Prime the concrete surface as usual apply 20mm wide 0.7mm thick copper strip
150mm either side of joint at 1m centers ensuring that the tape within the joint is
looped at least 20mm below under the joint level. Insert X-Seal JointCord in the gap
and seal the joint X-Seal HD80 Conductive.

9.0 Mixing of Application of X-Tech Dissipative or Conductive Base Coats

Both of the liquid components should be briefly stirred to ensure that any
settlement products are fully suspended. Mixing should be carried using a slow

Method Statement X-Tech AntiStatic SLE v3 January 2014 Page 3 of 5

speed drill (350 rpm) with a X-Calibur approved mixing paddle. Pour the base
component into the hardener component and mix for 3 minutes. Frequently scrape
the sides and bottom of the container. When mixed the Base Coat should be
applied to the primed concrete using a medium hair roller to a wet film thickness of
150 microns. Do not pour directly onto the substrate as this may result in
occasional patches of thick material, which may then not fully cure. Do not attempt
to roll the Base Coat out too thin as this can affect the product's electrical
properties in use. On a reasonably smooth substrate the aim to maintain a
coverage of about 6.6m2/L. This is best achieved by measuring and marking out the
floor in the form of a grid so that the area corresponding to each pack of material is
clearly visible. Use a small (25mm) paintbrush to work the Base Coat into any
ground points or bridging points (where used) as a good contact is essential at
these points. The Base Coat will cure in less than 24 hours depending upon
conditions and is ready to receive the Top Coat when a finger drawn across the
surface picks up only minimal black traces. At this point the Base Coat should be
foot trafficable in clean footwear without exhibiting any tack. When cured to this
stage, the resistance to earth as measured by the test method set out below should
be 1 x 105 ohms or less for the Conductive Base Coat or 1 x 106 ohms to 1 x 108
ohms for the Dissipative Base Coat. Ensure test results are recorded.

10.0 Mixing and Application of X-Tech AntiStatic SLE Top Coat

Both of the liquid components should be briefly stirred to ensure that any
settlement products are fully suspended. Mixing should be carried out using a
forced action mixer such as a Mixit 25 (mixers are available to purchase or rent
from X-Calibur). Mix the base and hardener until a uniform color is achieved. Add
the filler slowly during mixing and mix for a further 2 mins. Spread the mixed product
onto the tack-free primer, using a 4mm notched vee rake followed by a pin leveller set
at 1.5 to 2mm to achieve a uniform thickness of between 1.5 and 2mm. Immediately
after spreading, roll using a spiked roller to release trapped air and remove trowel
marks. Rolling should be completed within 20 minutes.

11.0 Floor Joints

All existing expansion or movement joints should be followed through the new floor
surface. Used X-Seal HD80 Conductive as the joint sealant and size joints
accordingly.

12.0 Testing
Allow the floor to cure for 2 days and test for conductivity using the test method
given in ASTM F150 and the results recorded. The average resistance for a
conductive floor should be between 5 x 104 ohms and 1 x 106 ohms and for a
dissipative floor it should be between 5 x 106 ohms and 1 x 109 ohms. It is
recommended that 1 reading is taken at least every 50m2.

13.0 Safety
This product is for industrial use only by trained operatives.
