talking about technology in the home. Serena, welcome.
Serena: Thanks!

English Class B1 Unit 1 Answer Key

Presenter: Now, I imagine like many people your age, technology is an important part of your life.
Tell us how you use it.
Serena: Well, the most important thing for me is texting friends on my smartphone, in the
mornings. That’s quicker than calling them! Then we can decide when we can meet in
the evenings.
Presenter: And what about friends that live far away?
Serena: Well, sometimes friends move to another town, and that makes me sad. But it’s easy to
stay friends – they can share their photos with you, and you can see what they’re doing.
Presenter: So have you got a friend like that?
Serena: Yes, my friend Katrina – she’s my neighbour! But she’s in the US this week – and I can
see from her holiday photos that she’s sending online, she’s having a great time!
Presenter: And how do your parents use technology?
Serena: Dad uses the internet on his desktop computer in his office, and mum sends all her
emails on her smartphone. She’s got her own food business, so that’s important.
Presenter: And what about your grandparents?
Serena: Well, they can remember a time when there were no computers at all! I can’t imagine
that! But Grandad now downloads music onto his tablet and grandma uses email to keep
in touch with her friends.
Presenter: And do they sometimes need help?
Serena: Grandad asks me to show him how to use the internet. But Grandma doesn’t – she goes
to computer classes. She even teaches me new things sometimes! I’m always so
surprised by that!
Presenter: Thanks, Serena!
