The integrated system combines a drone with a sensitive magnetometer SENSYS
MagDrone R3 or R4 and true terrain-following with a precise altimeter.
Both models – R3 and R4 – utilize the same 3D fluxgate sensors therefore have the
same characteristics in terms of sensitivity, noises etc. Main diference is that R3 has 2
sensors at the ends of 1m sensor bar, R4 has 5 sensors every 50cm on 2m long bar.
That means that in the single pass over survey line R4 allows to cover wider lane and
delivers data with 2x times better resolution.
A very important point is that the magnetometer is not an active sensor. It measures
the magnetic field at the point where it is located. So for the detection of objects
(especially small ones), it is very important to fly as close to the surface as possible.
The true terrain-following system with a precise radar altimeter allows flying as low as
0.5m AGL.
Using a magnetometer on a drone enables us to scan the area and detect metals several
times faster compared with handheld devices and allows obtaining geo-referenced
maps of the area.
One of the main components of the integrated system that enabled efficient survey
planning is UgCS - a flight planning software that provides tools for easy creation and
calculation of flight paths. To plan a survey mission with UgCS, just mark the area of
interest on the map and start an automatic flight mission.
MagDrone R3 is a light and compact magnetometer system. Almost any drone with a
payload capacity of 1kg can be used. We recommend DJI M300 RTK, M600 Pro,
M210, M210V2 or medium/large drones with Pixhawk autopilot.

MagDrone R4 is bigger, and can be used with DJI M300 RTK, M600 Pro or
comparable drones.
Thanks to 200Hz sampling rate MagDrone R3/R4 can be attached to the drone’s legs
without detrimental effects. A high sampling rate allows filtering out noise from the
drone’s motors and electronics. It is a huge benefit compared with traditional magnetic
sensors on the rope under a drone, especially for inexperienced drone pilots.
Power for MagDrone R3/R4 provided from the drone's main battery eliminates the
need to have one more set of batteries in the field. That's especially convenient with
DJI M300 RTK drone when you may change drone batteries one by one, keeping all
devices powered.
6m AGL:
The preview was generated with SENSYS MagDrone DataTool, and the 3D surfaces
were created using Geosoft Oasis Montaj. The vertical scale is the same on all 3D
surfaces.
The dependence of the amplitude of measured values on the distance is clearly visible
in these samples.
UgCS True Terrain Following with radar altimeter allows flying in automatic mode as
low as 0.5m AGL providing a possibility to detect small objects and gather high-
resolution data.
