focused on the attempt to "document" reality in one
way or another.

 Documentary films are solely based on reality and real-

to films of this nature in a review of Robert
Flaherty's film Moana (1926), published in
the New York Sun on 8 February 1926 and
written by "The Moviegoer", a pen name for
documentarian John Grierson.

 Early documentary films, known "actuality films" at
the time, lasted one minute or less. Documentaries
have grown in length and scope over time, and now fall
into a variety of groups, including scholarly,
observational, and docufiction. Documentaries are
rather comprehensive, and they are often used in
classrooms to teach different concepts. Documentary
filmmakers have a right to be honest about their
worldview without purposefully misrepresenting a
topic.

 The documentary film genre has benefited
from the rise of social media sites. These
outlets have expanded the dissemination field
and made content more easily accessible,
improving the opportunity to educate a greater
number of people and expanding the reach of
those who consume it.
