between 1970 and 2000 in the USA, and a breakdown of the proportion
of four marital status in years 1970 and 2000.

Overall, marriages outnumbered divorces over the 30-year period, and


while the number of the married showed a slight decrease over the
period given, that of divorced remained at around 1 million. In terms of
the specific marital status, the proportion of the divorced and those who
never got married rose, while those of the married and the widowed
