REVIEW OF A MANUSCRIPT ENTITLED: “EVALUATION OF MAINTENANCE

EFFECTIVENESS AND HUMAN FACTORS: CASE STUDY OF A RESEARCH

INSTITUTE”

Title and Abstract

 The title would have been better if it mentioned the actual research institute since the
results are bound to be specific to that institute.
 The opening sentence in the Abstract “maintenance has become an integral part of …”
should be rephrased to read “maintenance is an integral part of …”. This because that is
what maintenance has always been
 In the second paragraph of the Abstract, the sentence, “This research focuses on…”
should read “This research focused on…” because the research has already been done.

 In the same paragraph MTBF stands for Meantime Between Failure not Meantime Before
Failure

 In the last paragraph of the Abstract there is a result reported of “a total downtime of
12.01 hours over a period of 6 months”. Without reporting how many hours the machine
is expected to work in a month, this information may not tell anybody much because it is
difficult to put the figure in any perspective.

Problem Statement
 The problem was not stated. From this section it is not known what led the research to be
carried out.

Relevance
 Maintenance of machinery and equipment is a very important practice that has a direct
impact on the costs of running an organization. This study is therefore quite relevant.

Reference to the Literature

 Some literature was reviewed. In section 2.4 check on language – “:…humans capabilities
….. relies ….” does not look correct

Research design, Instrumentation, Materials and Methods

 The methodology employed is fit for this kind of research
Data Analysis and Results
 The data was also analysed well

Discussion and Conclusion

 There are some discussions but on results that were not presented

Presentation and Documentation

 The manuscript conforms to the JEAE format.

SUMMARY
The manuscript fit for publication in JEAE subject to the minor corrections as highlighted
above
