ii) A small steel of radius r is allowed to fall under gravity through a
column of viscous liquid of coefficient of viscosity n, After sometime the
velocity of the ball attains a constant value VT called terminal velocity. The
terminal velocity depends upon the weight of the ball mg, the coefficient of
viscosity and radius of the ball r. By using dimension method determine the
relation expressing terminal velocity

embedded swing after collision?

3. a) i) A car is travelling round a bend in a road at a constant speed of 22m/s.

The driver moves along a circular path of radius 25m. Explain why although
the speed of the driver is constant, his velocity is not constant
ii) A highway raod designed for an average speed of 72Km/h has turn of
radius 50m. To what angle must the road be bunked so that the cars
travelling at 72km/hr may no overturn

b) Consider two disc as shown in the figure below with mass less spring of
force constant 100N/M. Calculate the frequency of oscillations of the spring
i) When the system is resting on the table
ii) Whem the table is removed and the system is falling freely

4. a) i)A spoon is dropped from an artificial satellite orbiting around the earth
in a circular orbit. Will the spoon reach the surface of the earth? Explain
ii) calculate the distance from the earth to the point where the gravitational
field due to the earth and the moon cancel out. Given that earth-moon
distance is 3.8x108m and the mass of the earth is 81 times that of the moon.

b) A sphere and cylinder having the same mass and radius start from the rest
at the same point on an inclined plane and they are left to volt down the
plane. Determine which one reaches at the bottom first.?

5. a) i)Explain why at least two fixed points are required to define a

temperature scale.
ii) Mention the type of thermometer which is most suitable for calibrations
and what are the two (2) advantages and two (2) disadvantages of the
thermometer mentioned.

b) i) Explain why in cold countries, windows of modern building are double

glazed
ii) A spherical black body of radius 12cm radiate 450w at 500k If the radius
of spherical black body were halved and temperature were doubled. What
will be the power radiated?

6. a) When water is boiled under pressure of 2atm the boiling point is 1200C.
At this pressure 1kg of water has a volume of 10-3m3 and 2kg has volume of
1.648m3. Compute
i) workdone when 1kg of steam is formed at this temperature
ii) Increase in internal energe
b)A quantity of Oxygen is compressed isothermally until its pressure is doubled. It
is then allowed to expand adiabatically until its original volume is restored. Find
the final pressure in terms of the initial pressure.

7. i) Briefly explain three sources and effects of air pollution
ii) Rainfall may affect the plant growth in both positive and negative way,
