Being a Diligent Problem Solver at Doulos means being someone who can not only solve

problems effectively but also be able to see the solution to problems that require more research

and see if the research you're using is reliable . You should also be able to avoid bias in decision

making to be able to find the truth. These are all things I have learned and shown throughout my

years at Doulos.

In science class we used the scientific method of thinking on various occasions but, one

in particular is when we made bread in class. We used the scientific method to investigate how

our bread would bake, first we made a hypothesis of if it would work then tested it. Afterwards

we gave it to people to test it and gathered data. At one point in our process of making bread we

noticed that we were missing an ingredient so we searched online for possible solutions. I found

out that we could use a substitute ingredient and it worked well. This is how I used scientific

reasoning and found solutions to problems that arose while I worked.

During most of our projects in history we use many different methods online to

investigate topics. We need to use a variety of sources so that we can assure that the information

is correct and accurate. One time I used many sources was when I did my moon landing project,

I chose to explore the space race further. To make sure I had accurate information I searched for

information on three different sites. This shows that I can use technology to analyze information.

In the course of this project not only did I use technology but while I was using it I was using a

variety of resources to conduct research.

During tenth grade we were studying different religions in bible class. My group had to

make sure we were being respectful of others and their beliefs. For the assignment we had to

showcase what they believed and how their beliefs were similar or different from our own

without it being rude or putting our beliefs above theirs. Throughout the process we had to do

this without a bias for our own beliefs which was at times hard to do and was even conflicting, in

order to see other points of view and how they could tie into our own views or what similar

beliefs we had in common. After that we had to show what was to come to the conclusion of the

truths of our religion.

In tenth grade, for one of our fundraisers my class didn't know what to do. For earlier

years when my sister had her fundraisers my dad had offered the idea of a rubber duck race to

them but they never used it. I had heard about it at the time and when it came time for us to do

our fundraiser I asked him about it. He said that I could use the idea and that he already had the

ducks bought. Then I brought the idea to the class and at first they were hesitant but I asked my

dad to come to the class and further explain the idea and using the knowledge he provided they

were convinced this was the best solution to use it as one of our fundraisers.

Throughout my high school years I have been growing in the skills of a scholar. I started

out not being able to solve harder problems and now I can do so effectively and with the right

methods. The skill of a scholar is a diligent problem solver is someone who can solve hard

problems in an effective way. I have shown that I could be a diligent problem solver through my

actions in my time at Doulos. I can use this skill in the future at work and at college for work in

class and in real world situations.
