What is your impression

of medical language??
For Me The Medical Language is Often Referred To As Impersonal,
Strictly Scientific, And Largely Incomprehensible To The General
Public Because it is a Set Of Technical Terms Used By Medical
Professionals To Describe Symptoms, Diseases, Treatments And
Medical Procedures That Allow Them To Communicate Effectively
With Each Other.

Why Might It Be Important To Learn The

Components Of Medical Terms ??
➢ Learning The Components Of Medical Terms Can Help
Improve Communication Between Healthcare Professionals
And Their Patients, As Well As Make It Easier To Understand
Complex Medical Information By Knowing The Meaning Of
The Basic Components, It Is Possible To Understand The
Meaning Of Many Words And Learn New Terms More Easily.

➢ Medical terms are formed from roots, prefixes and suffixes

❖ Roots are Basic elements that describe a structure, function or organ of
the human body.
❖ Prefixes and suffixes are elements that can be added to a root to change
its meaning or to form a new word.
For example, the word "cardiology" is composed of the root "cardio-" which refers to the
heart. From the suffix "-logy" which means "study of" and the prefix "car-" which means
"relative to the heart". Thus, the term "cardiology" means the medical study of the heart.
