Science Peer Tutoring Contract 2023- 2024

TUTOR
The purpose of this contract is to set out the expectations and responsibilities for both the student tutor and the
tutee. It is expected that both students involved will treat each other with consideration when setting up and
participating in tutoring meetings.

Disclaimers:
The peer tutoring program is offered for students to have the opportunity to work with other students in support of
their learning. Both students agree to participate to the best of their abilities, but there is no guarantee a student’s
success will improve as a result of peer tutoring.

Peer tutoring sessions are UNSUPERVISED by teachers. While students can choose their own meeting places both at
and away from school, it is strongly suggested they use public spaces (e.g. the school library, community library).

Only tutoring meetings that take place outside of regular school hours and that are entered in the log form can be
considered for volunteer hours/CAS experience.

Responsibilities of the Peer Tutor

As a science tutor I am making a commitment to help my assigned student to the best of my ability.

Specifically:

• I will be patient, courteous, polite and respectful to my tutee

• I will be available at mutually agreed meeting times to help my assigned student for at least one hour per week if
the student requires help (suggested 2 x 30 min per week). There is no requirement for me to agree to last-
minute meetings, extra questions (either in-person or electronic) or unreasonable requests.
• If I have to cancel a meeting I will let my assigned student know in advance.
• I will make regular attempts (e.g. once per week) to contact my assigned student to check if they need help if I do not
hear from them (it is suggested you keep a log of your contact attempts and of your meetings).
• If problems arise I will inform the tutor co-ordinator, who will inform the staff advisors. The advisors will help to
resolve the concerns. If it becomes necessary, the science tutors club reserves the right to rematch tutors and tutees.

I have read the entire contract and agree to its terms
