Instruction: Attempt any four questions and show your workings clearly.
1) (a) A ship leaves port and travels 21km on a bearing of 032⁰ and then 45km on a
bearing of 287⁰.
(i) Calculate its distance from the port.
(ii) Calculate the bearing of the port from the ship.
2) A bag contains ten marbles, seven of which are black and three are red. Three
marbles are drawn one after the other without replacement. Find the probability of
choosing:
(a) one red, one black and one red (in that order) (b) two black marbles
(c) at least two black marbles (d) at most two black marbles.
3) To staff a tailoring company, a business woman needs at least 6 cutters and 10
seamstresses. She doesn’t want to employ more than 25 people altogether. To be
effective, a cutter needs 2 tables to work on and a seamstress needs 1 table. There
are only 40 tables available.
If x and y are the numbers of cutters and seamstresses respectively; (a) write down
four inequalities that represent the restrictions on the businesswoman.
(b) draw a graph that shows a region representing possible values of x and y.
(c) find the greatest value of y.
4) (a) Solve the simultaneous equations
3x + y = 10; 2x² + y² = 19.
(b) If 1 is added to both numerator and denominator of a fraction, the fraction

(b) In ∆ABC, the internal bisector of <A meets BC at D. If /AB/ = 4cm, /AC/ =
3cm and <A = 60⁰: (i) Sketch a diagram to illustrate the information
(ii) Find the length of /AD/.
