SOLAR ELECTRICITY PROPOSAL

14th March 2024

1.) INTRODUCTION & How It Work

When sunlight hits the photovoltaic (PV) tiles in your Solar Roof, it is absorbed by solar
cells, creating a flow of electric current. This direct current (DC) energy is then sent to
your solar inverter, which converts it to the alternating current (AC) energy that can
power your home.

3.) The “Surya Bala Sangramaya” Schemes

“Surya Bala Sangramaya,” Battle of Solar Energy, is a Sri Lankan Government’s national approach where Households
and Industrialists are persuaded to get Solar PV Energy Systems installed under the three main Categories shown
below.
a. Net Metering
b. Net Accounting
c. Net Plus
Choose the best schemes or solution for your Solar PV energy.
a. Net metering
• The electricity generated through solar systems installed is directly fed to the national gridvia net metering
system.
• Bill-calculation is done in accordance with the net amount of electricity consumed by the customers and
the energy produced by the Solar PV system.
• If the electricity produced has exceeded the electricity consumption, the balance amount is brought forward to
the future usage as a credit amount for a guaranteed period of 20 years. Nomoney will be paid for the excess
electricity.
• Existing net metering customers can switch to other schemes, but, if they wish to sign a new such agreement,
the electricity units accumulated prior to signing the new agreement shall not be carried forward.

b. Net- Accounting
If the electricity generated from the Solar Roof Top System is greater than the Electricity consumption,
the consumer will be paid for that extra amount (kWh) provided to the national grid according to the
table given below:
Project Payment per unit or
period kWh
1 to 20 years Rs 37

If the consumer’s electricity consumption is greater than the PV Solar System’s electricity generation, the
consumer will have to pay only for the amount of energy consumed exceeding that energy generation
according to the existing electricity tariff structure.

c. Net-Plus
• The total electricity generated from the PV Solar Roof top system will be purchased for a period of twenty years.
• The total electricity consumption (Bill) by the consumer will have to be paid as usual according to the existing
electricity tariff structure.

➢ Consumers have the ability to sell the electricity units generated bythe solar system to LECO/CEB.
➢ The Customer will be paid by the LECO/CEB Rs. 37.00 per unitduring the first 20 years.
➢ Solar power systems have a lifetime in excess of 25 years and providea reliable, long term and an
