NARRATIVE REPORT

On November 11, a symposium was held at BUIDaA Annex building about Disaster
Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) with the aim to spread awareness and teach Bueños
including myself to provide life-saving and life-sustaining information and skills to protect
oneself and others during and after emergencies, reduce or avoid the potential losses from
hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster, and achieve rapid
and effective recovery.

The symposium started with a few welcome messages from our director: Ar. Leo A.
Del Rosario, and NSTP director: Prof. Eduardo Thaddeus M. Livica Jr. After such
welcoming words from them, an activity overview was conducted by Ar. Maureen M. Sia to
discuss the objectives of our activity that day. Then following the introduction to the
resource speaker: Ar. Deo R. Moreno who will discuss the DRRM legal basis and concepts
and the role of youth in DRRM. I learned plentiful during Ar. Moreno’s conference such as
the history of DRRM, the NDRRM council, and the four phases of disaster management:
mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery. We also tackled the definition of disaster risk
and facts about hazard, exposure, vulnerability and disaster. He later then discussed the
purpose of salient features of R.A. 10121 sections: 11, 15, 16 and 21.

After the deliberation, all students came back at 1:00 pm for another symposium
tackling the DRRM activity workshop and instruction to earthquake drill with the same
facilitator: Ar. Deo R. Moreno. He briefly discussed the conduct of earthquake drill and
asked us to address any potential hazards present in the BUIDeA building. Then comes the
earthquake drill practice featuring the duck, cover and hold and an organized departure
from the building to an open area. It was fun and I certainly learned and enjoyed the
activity. Then the awarding of token and certificate to our resource speaker followed by a
photo opportunity with all the advisers, directors, non-teaching personnel and each class
block. It ended with a closing remark by Ms. Lorena A. Fernandez: the BUIDeA NSTP
implementer and a lively snack gathering that not only filled our knowledge, but also our
